How To Know When Black Tank Is Full

The red light indicator stopped working. So how can I determine when it's time to empty the black water tank.

It's a 2018 Jayflight 26BH TT. It's a month old and those red lights say it's full even right after we empty it.

You have something gummed up in your sensor. Get your tank cleaned out properly, and it will work again.

That's common with all RV's My toilet is a straight shot down so I can just look and see.. I have also learned that when the tank is near full the solids go down with a "kersplook" sound.

Congratulations on the new Jay Flight and welcome to the forum.

As others have said, gunk on the sensor(s) is a continual problem and if your black tank is directly below your toilet, you can look down and see the level in the tank.

We usually go (no pun intended) by the number of days since the last dump. You will probably find the interval between dumps that works for you.

Does it have a built in black tank flush?
Most important is you need to wait until the tank is full before dumping, the run the flush for about 10 minutes. Once flushed, close the valve and add 3 or 4 toilet bowls of water and chemical to the empty tank.

If you can see waste looking down the toilet, your full. If you use it a little more you will have confirmation you are full.
