New owner (again) and thanks to forum members!

My wife and I just traded our seven-year-old Coleman 192RD for a 2022 Jayco 212QB. It has the same floorplan except for the orientation of the bed at the front. Even though we loved the Coleman and had very few problems, I can tell the build quality of the Jayco is better. I worked at a Starcraft dealer during the summer in high school and college, so I can handle most of the annoying little fixes.

Speaking of that, on our first trip down to Truman Lake, we used the hot water heater to wash dishes after dinner. When I went to take a shower later that night, it would not kick on with either gas or electric. I checked breakers, fuses, and even put my meter on the element. I figured I would call the dealer and see what they suggested.

However, I decided to check this forum first. Not surprisingly, I found that others had experienced the same problem. It was suggested to take off the thermal cutoff, bypass it, and see if the heater works. I did that and it worked on both electric and gas! Now I just have to get my dealer to send me a couple new thermal cutoffs (I want a spare to travel with) and I don't have to haul the trailer over an hour into the dealer. I also found the cutoffs on Amazon in multipacks for really low prices.

Thank you to all of you who offer helpful advice in this forum! This forum is a valuable resource for any RV owner. I hope I can be a help to someone some day.

Welcome aboard!

Kudos to you for your use of the search engine (which while not always totally intuitive, does work quite well).

The main reason the thermal cut off will blow, is if the switch was accidentally left on from last trip or turned on this trip when plugging in the shore cord, BEFORE you fill the water heater tank. I always hook up water then power. That thermal fuse will blow before the upper level thermal fuse.

We have a 2021 212qbw. Our first trip out our thermal cut off was bad as well. I replaced it with a new one. Same thing happened next trip. So I replaced it again and I also replaced the thermostat and haven’t had an issue since. I just ordered it all on Amazon all under $20. Now I have a couple extras as well.
