Roof questions

Question. Fairly new owner for a couple years now. 2013 26 BHS. I got it out of storage to do cleaning and wash for the first time this year. While inspecting the roof and washing it I notice at the front the caulk on the front portion of the roof separated. I already have some ordered to replace. The rubber is loose in that area. I didn’t see an open spot under it. Is this something that I can recaulk or is this worse and needs attention from the dealer. I also notice at a few feet back a ridge. Thanks

I would clean it real good with Acetone and apply a 6 inch piece of Eternabond tape the whole way across side to side.

X2 on the Etearnabond tape.

Try picking at it with you fingernail ( no metal objects!) and see if it come up or off. Several posts on how take it off before adding the tape or re-caulking the area, or both. Do a little search on replacing the caulk.

Had this happen to our previous hybrid trailer, same spot (not the buckling though). I already had a little water coming in which what led me to a roof inspection. I peeled up the old Dicor, then unscrewed the molding. Many of the screws were rusty. I dried it all out, put in new larger screws, then completed it with Eternabond, 6 in as Norty is suggesting.

I'd be concerned on yours that a little water is getting in there. It's easy to remove that molding once the old Dicor is removed.

No need for a dealer for this fix. You'll probably do a better job, anyway.

The responses you've gotten seem to run the gamut from good enough to excellent.

A six inch wide piece of Eternabond on a well cleaned surface is all you need to do to have a job that will last.

When I put on Eternabond, I like to remove the old Dicor first, just to get a nice, level surface. I removed all the Dicor on the roof of my 26BH when I bought it new in 2017, and replaced it with Eternabond. A plastic putty knife will do a good job of getting off the Dicor (even decades old Dicor) without damaging the roof.

note: when I replaced the Dicor on my new trailer, I used 4" wide tape, even on the front joint, and believe that was just fine. On your trailer, where a small issue has developed, I agree that the six inch tape is the appropriate choice.

If I was repairing your trailer, I'd go the whole route of removing the Dicor, and removing the molding like DocBrown suggested. I'd just like to know what was going on there, and snug up the roof material when I refastened the molding to get the looseness out of the roof material.

The other hump, further back, didn't show up in the photo that well, but it sounds like something I would just leave alone.

If you repair the seam yourself, you'll find out how easy it is to apply Eternabond. The key is a good clean surface....acetone...and be sure you don't stretch the tape when you apply. Of course, you'll find videos on the application.

Once you see how easy it is, why not get rid of all the rest of the Dicor on the roof, and replace it with tape. The rear seam, skylights, etc., with 4" tape?

Water is patient, and if there's a way for it to get in, it'll do it.

Here’s a roof vent that is on my friends trailer this weekend. Already spent 2 grand on a roof coating job that was poor workmanship at the least. 2 other rv “techs” also had a go at it and it was dripping water inside from a heavy dew.

I cleaned off a 10 year pile of wet caulk, 14 year old roof/ coating, etc. The original cracks could still be seen where the vent attached. No rot because the mfg had put a heavy layer of glue on the bare wood. It was not pretty but it no longer leaks.

Eternabond! It’ll outlast the TT.

Here is what I did to our front cap. I used 2 strips of 4" Eternabond tape. 4" is what I have. I took off the factory silacone caulk and put Dicore on the eadges where the tape would not fit well. These pics are where I had finished resealing the whole roof. Eternabond on the straight areas and Dicore on the round areas. In my case I did not remove all the dicore, but I did not have damage like you do. I cut and scraped the dicore to give me a nice straight eadge and put the tape over it. Make sure that you get all the air from under the tape. Here is the pics I posted last year. You may have to scrol down.
