Sea Foam?

I have a Yamaha 2000 generator. Since it was new (3 years ago) I fill the gas tank (premium no alcohol gas) add some Sea Foam gas treatment, start it up, let it run 5 to 10 minutes, shut off the gas flow and let it run the carburetor dry and stick it in the corner of the garage. After 3 years I finally read the operator manual and it says no Sea Foam or Stabil? Rather run the carb dry and dump the remaining gas. Why no gas stabilizer?

Your generator may have plastic or rubber components in the fuel system that will be affected by the additives. I would follow the manufacturers advice.

My 25 year old Honda was surging a few years ago and a mechanic at the Honda dealer told me to run the engine on pure SeaFoam. I got a longer hose from the carb into the can and ran it for a few minutes, did this for three days, on the fourth day filled it with new gas and it runs like new. I use SeaFoam in all my small engines and never had a problem.

I have been in the automotive business for 35 years now so I am a little apprehensive when someone comes out out with or suggests a new "snake oil" quick fix. However, a few years back my Coleman generator would not run unless I had the choke pretty much in the closed position. Told a customer I was going to drop the gen off at his shop and have him look at the carb for me. Told him what the story was. He gave me an open can of Seafoam and told me to add to a fill of high test gas in my gerry can. Next outing with the gen ran it until it stalled out from lack of fuel. Filled it with 91 octane mixed with the Seafoam. Started it up and listend to it buck and fart for a few minutes and all of a sudden it smothed out completely. Not a word of a lie. The Coleman is long gone but since that day I have been using 91 grade fuel mixed with Seafoam in all of my small engines. I'm a trul believer in the stuff.
