Slideout… In or Out?

This is our first TT with a slideout.
We see some folks storing their camper with the slides retracted. And others with them out.
What’s the recommendation, and why?

Thanks!

I only have my slide out when in use or doing maintenance inside/outside the camper. When not in use, I bring it in. My thought is less exposed roof area (I do not have slide toppers), less UV exposure to the slide seals, and maybe less entry areas for critters.
No experience with any negative impact of leaving it out, this is just what I do. Plus, I have limited space in my driveway.

Try a Google search and you will find a number of articles and threads from the RV experts. It is a common question with lots of opinion. You will find a number of the threads here too with a search using the feature in the gold bar at the top of the page.

The biggest negative is that it exposes your seals to hours of unnecessary UV and weather with them out during storage.

"Slides in" for all the reasons already mentioned, plus protection from heavy hail storms and winter snow/ice build up.

Sounds as though keeping it in is the lower-risk choice.
I wonder why I see so many with them out.
Thanks to all for the advice.

@CAG… the forum search wasn’t useful. Too many results from other topics, since the words are so commonly used … “out”, “slide”, etc.

Try this Custom search, it's forum specific and very good!

You did say driveway. I would make sure the trailer is level for slide operation.

slide in when in storage, like everyone said, less exposer.
