Tire Rotation

Newbie owner with a question tire flat spotting.

My trailer will sit in a RV garage attached to the house, so it will not be outside exposed to the Sun or weather.

It will likely sit October into April.

I had considered putting it up on jack stands lifting all four tires off the ground. But with the BAJA lift package, I'd have to put 12" of cribbing under each jack. And Jayco was "nice" enough to put a bunch of service lines in conflict with the access to the main frame rail.

So I thought, why not just jack up each wheel and rotate it 90 degrees and set it back down on a monthly cycle.

What is everyone thoughts on this for tire maintenance?

While driving it and re-parking is an option, I tend to have little time in the winter. I travel for work and Uncle Sam has me a weekend a month with the USCG. Plus here in Phoenix, this is when we occupy our winter weekends with all the outside home maintenance and other projects on the property we don't do while we hibernate during the summer. After a month of ownership and best intentions, I haven't had a chance to take it out of the garage yet. My weekends free up in the summer as activities around the home and other activities outside with friends in the winter end.

What I have read, the tire companies state to take the load off the tires when in storage.

I know no one that does. My HTT, sits in the local fairgrounds all winter long (inaccessible storage). It sits on its tires all winter. I have never noticed any issues doing such. I would bet 99.99% of the rigs out there are treated the same. My tires have been just fine.

Tires tend to wear out from age long before the tread wears out.

We are in similar circumstances with the TT in an RV yard within our gated community. I’ve gone down every couple of months in the winter, hitched up and moved it just a few feet to rest on a different part of the tires. It doesn’t take long. I typically check the tire pressure and top off if necessary at the same time with my Viair. Frankly, I don’t know if this makes any real difference, but it eases my conscience and I’ve never noticed any tire flat spots.

Cover the tires up. Mine are 4 years old and cracking on the sunny side. Look great on shade side.

I cover the tires when in storage. I also take about 10% of the weight off with the stab jacks and tongue jack.

Then we leave for 5 months in Florida winter. Replace tires on a 5 year cycle and that's it.

X2 on covers. I’ve always kept mine covered when we’re not traveling and they look great after four years.
