Wax, Cleaners, & Grease Suggestions, please !

My 165 ( fiberglass ) could use some wax especially on the front, our awning needs a good cleaning with the usual mildew & yuck, & a suggestion for grease for the hitch area ( ball ).

Just got back from the central coast here in California sure did enjoy our first hook-up ! Pismo Coast Village Rv Resort, very nice !

Hi Chuckwagon;

If your awning is white, vinyl and your stitching is nylon...a bleach mixture is a cheap and effective solution. I used a spray bottle to apply a 10% mixture, rolled it up for about 10 min, rolled it out, scrubbed a few spots, then rinsed it thoroughly = white a snow. My TT is metal sided - but I use a good quality wax like Maguiars or Mothers and streaks stay away. Go light on the grease in the hitch area. You need a good ground at the ball and friction is your friend when it comes to anti-sway.

I'm sure others roll different....maybe better....but that's my system. YMMV

I recently tried that roll up trick and wow did it work well. I learnt that from a post here and use the same 10 percent bleach solution. I use Protect All for wax finish. Works great and doesn't leave wax marks on rubber like others do and easy to polish to a nice shine.

Just finished waxing my 165 last week by hand (ugg..). Learned my lesson from last waxing and broke it up into two days which really helped my arms out. Just used some Nu-Finish car wax I had in the garage and turned out great. Awning, I also did a light bleach/water mix and rolled it up for 30mins. looks like new now I must say.

I too use the bleach roll up way, I mix about 1/2 cup bleach and 1/4 cup dawn with 5 gallons of warm water. Put it on the top with a long handled car brush, roller up and wait bout 30 minutes. Unroll and rinse good. I also use protect all wax. Waxed in the fall and set all winter in salt air and still looked good after I washed it. I then waxed it again. Mine is 32 feet with 3 slides and I can still get it done in about 3 hours.

My awning is white on bottom and green on top. Can I use the bleach or will it bleach the colors?

Yup, at least it has always worked satisfactorily for me with no color loss.
