When is antifreeze needed?

Were not done camping, heading out in early Nov then winterizing. Were getting our first freeze, low of 27 overnight predicted this week. Do I need to be concerned and get down there and put a little antifreeze in or is the upper 20s still ok? Low point drains have been open and the water heater open since early sept (last time it was used) but I am sure there is still some water in lines and tanks.

We're it me, I wouldn't fret too much about one night of cold temps. It may take more than a few hours of below freezing temps to penetrate the walls and pipes. Plus, you've drained everything. If it's a few nights of that, I'd take the conservative route and winterize.

If you are worried about it, take a minute and blow out your lines.

If it's plugged in I would just put a little electric heater on overnight just to be on the safe side.

Its at a storage unit with no power, my option is basically filling the lines with antifreeze via the pump on 12v and then draining it when we camp next or leave it

Remember you can recover most of the antifreeze by placing a 5 gal. bucket under the low point drains and use it over again. I go out ( off & on ) till December so that makes sense for me, and March-early April.

run antifreeze into it.. or blow out the lines including the faucets.. you have 27 hours before it freezes at 27 degrees constant... don't be like some boaters were 4 years ago.. they used a light in the motor box the light quit.. they got to buy a new $5k worth of motor... for what? being lazy? I do not know...

I just blow out the lines, and pour a small amount of antifreeze into the toilet and drains. I’ve been using the same $4 bottle since 2013.

Thank you all for the responses. I put 2 gallons of antifreeze in today to the lines and poured a little down the traps and tanks. Took around 40 minutes, weather has gotten slightly colder, 28 tonight, 25 tomorrow night, then were back up. Also grabbed the Keurig and brought it home as it has water in its lines.

Next weekend will be the final camping weekend and emptying the unit for good for the winter. I knew I was pushing it waiting this long, but I had this 1 long weekend calling me to camp a final time.

I was in the same boat and did the same thing this afternoon. We're planning to camp again next weekend as temps are supposed to warm back up some. After that, we'll play it by ear.

Ace Hardware had RV anti-freeze on sale for $2.50 a gallon, a small price to pay for peace of mind.

There is a little fitting that screws into your city water port. You can get it anywhere RV stuff is sold(even WalMart).
You hook up your air compressor to that at 45-50 PSI. Open each water outlet until no water blows out.

Camco makes one, others may as well. It's called a "blow out plug" and it is probably stocked at your local wal-mart and defiently at any nearby RV shop.

Looks like this:

Are you suppose to drain the grey n black tank after winterizing it with antifreeze? I cant see it doing any damage leaving it on the tanks

Drain it if water is in it, if the water sits at the end of the pipe it will freeze that pipe and explode it... you don't need to drain the antifreeze...

Walmart (at least mine) only carries the plastic plug. The plastic plug requires someone to hold an air chuck against the blow out plug. If you can find the brass one locally, buy it or order it...the brass one plugs directly into your compressor hose fitting.
