Where to buy wheel bearings

Where do I buy some good wheel bearings for my TT? It’s a 2016 Jayflight 26bhs. I’ve never done them but want to pull them out inspect and repack. Id prefer to order and have replacements ready if I feel they are needed after inspecting.

Sorry if it’s a dumb question but not sure if they are specific to models of trailer and where to get them.

Your best bet would be to clean then well enough to read the part numbers on the bearing (usually located on the inner race.) Then take those numbers to a good bearing house or reputable auto parts store to see if they stock them.

Also, being that new of a trailer there shouldn't be an issue with them. You should be able to just repack them.

If you want to look for them online check out Drive Train America:

Drivetrain America - Same Day Shipping by 5pm CST - Real Time Inventory

I get complete sets of Timken bearings here for a very reasonable price. If you get the tag info off your axle you should be able to find the necessary part numbers in the documentation for the axle. The Dexter manual that came with my unit had a good replacement part number table in it.

I got Timkens on Amazon. I replaced my OEM Bearings as soon as I got it home after purchase. Found multiple problems direct from the dealer. One hardly any grease, one so tight you could barely turn the tire...

X2 for the Timkens. The cheap OEM China made that Jayco supplied worried me also so I changed them out real quick. Found Amazon the cheapest to buy Timkens in sets bearing, race/cup. Easy to cross ref Dexter or Lippert bearing numbers to Timken

How did you cross reference. I've emailed Timken with no response. Have the bearing numbers but need seals. Thanks

At least for the Dexter axles using the parts kit catalog document at dexteraxle.com makes it easy. Under Resources --> Catalogs select Parts Kit Catalog. The Hub Components section shows the various bearing kits based on axle capacity and lists the Dexter Part Number for each component in the kit including the seals. A Google search for the Dexter Part Number will yield numerous results.

Your best bet is to take a look under the trailer at one of your axles and snap a picture of the axle tag with the manufacturer part number and other identifying details for reference. Once you have that information you should be able to find a parts reference table in the axle manual, or online at the manufacturer's web site if you didn't get the axle manual.

Great, thanks. Maybe I can use that and figure out mine.

x2

I repacked my bearing for the first time after 4 seasons and there wasn't an issue with mine. If you tow several thousand miles a year, I can see a need to repack them and inspect annually. If you have a trailer sales and/or supply store near you they can help you identify the bearings.

You need to replace the seals when you go to deal with the bearings. If you have the EZ Lube axles, they require a double lip seal. Look at your axles for a decal that has the manufacturer and # rating while will help you determine the seal size. Dexter and Lippert often use the same size seals.

It took me quite a bit of research and telephone work to finally get the Timken numbers I needed. I have Lippert 4400 pound axles and their manual makes no mention of such an animal. Even speaking with them on the phone was frustrating as it took several calls for someone to finally tell me the 4400 axle uses the same bearings as their 3500 axles. This didn't make me happy as the GVW of my trailer is north of 9,000 pounds. But after getting that info I was able to get Timken part numbers. Just couldn't find Timken seals but did find a Dexter number for a double lip seal that worked fine.

As for not worrying about "New" bearings from the factory, I swapped mine out after less than 500 miles. Found 1 basically dry, 1 so tight I could barely spin the tire and one seal not seated correctly allowing grease to begin to leak. If you are able I highly recommend anyone pull their wheels and check their bearings. If for nothing else, peace of mind...
