Why do we need this insulation and cover under trailer

I have a 2010 bunkhouse and i am chasing some kind of water leak. Either way why in the world do we have the under cover and insulation????? I will not use it in the winter. I do in the summer. Can i just cut that out so i can get it to dry under there?????

Yes you can cut everywhere you want and clean the surface with thinner where you tape off with Gorilla Tape.

I wouldn't cut it all off except an area which need service etc.

Except to help keep critters out if properly sealed.

Keep in mind if you remove it and don’t reinstall it, it WILL affect your resale/trade in value down the line.

It also provides a level of protection for tanks, plumbing and wiring from road debris while towing. I've read somewhere it also makes the trailer more aerodynamic by reducing drag.

I got into the floor tonight and i would not remove the material. It would expose the underside of the trailer that is all unprotected wood. One trip down the road in the rain. Forget about. Just a thought.

I would recommend carefully removing it to find the water leak with a plan to reinstall it and dry insulation material once the leak is found and fixed. While you may not winter camp having it helps maintain it's value to a potential future buyer and it offers some protection from water and dirt while you're traveling on the road.

You can do what ever you want, its your TT. Understand your frustration when dealing with a water leak, and my experience would support that in many cases where the water is dripping out is not where the actual leak is located.

Your question about why is the material there is a little bit niave. How effective it actually is, is a frequent topic here on the forum but at a minimum it protects the underside frame, floor, and components from rain, snow, and general road grime. If properly sealed it also helps keep unwelcome critters outside the TT. I would open it carefully and only in the suspected area. An opening sufficient to stick your head or a light / mirror is where I would start. When the problem is taken care of I would use weather proof tape and mechanical fasteners to reattach the material.

Why don't you contact Jayco customer support and ask for the floorplan. I called and asked for any plans with general layout of pipes, electrical, studs, etc. I had them in my email within 2 hours.

It is always fun locating water leaks .

Most of the TT's you can buy without the insulated underbelly. It is there to help extend your camping season. We do not have the insulation, and early and late into the year, our floors are really cold. There is another advantage regarding the coraplast under the TT. It improves your fuel mileage, by streamlining the underside of your trailer. Every item the air hits and is deflected by creates drag.

As for your water leak, have you located where the leak is at yet? If not, don't ignore the seal on the hatch opening. The discoloration of the wood, make s me think the epicenter is the cargo door. Ours had to be replaced, as it was wrinkled and allowed water to pass by.

Best think to check water leaks id with Air, because you will hear the leak.

You might need to check the ceiling you probably have water running down the wall from the roof. Chances are that’s what you’re dealing with it unless bad back door was leaking also.
