Anyone rent their pop up out?

I am in the military and currently I am in TX for the next year and my family is in TN. Prior to this seperation I was stationed in Korea for almost 2 years. With all that said my camper (2012 Jayco 1206) will be used once this year and has sat for over 2 years prior. Needless to say I did not anticipate being away from home for this long and my family won't take it out unless I am with them. Living in TN I think with the right price we could easily have it rented out from spring to fall. Does anyone else on here rent theirs out?

I know nobody will treat my property like I will but I think renting it out will at least get it used, push some revenue back my way, and keep it from sitting and collecting dust. Any advice or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Short answer is NO!! All RV's and especially pups require a loving hand and a heavy dose of TLC. Neither of these are typically the way renters take care of the stuff they rent. I really doubt you would be happy to receive a call that the pup is out of commission with a broken cable or that the canvas is moldy from being packed down wet. If you are not going to use it then sell it while it is in top shape. Otherwise ask a trusted family member to take it out a couple times a season or even set it up in their back yard just to keep it "fresh". Lots of bad things can happen when a pup is not opened and aired out every once in a while.

Renting

I have rented out my pop up twice so far with no issues. The site I use gives you the ability to talk to the renter and find out about them. I may think differently if it was a million dollar Prevost but a six year old pop up there is not much that can be done that has not already been done to it. It is better than it sitting in storage when I am not using it.

Never rented mine but did loan it relatives. Not particularly happy with the result as they did not take quite as good care as I did.

Have you considered selling a buying again when you get back?

I think you are asking this question in the wrong forum. Most people here would not consider renting their rv's simply because they do not have any need to do so. You are not going to get a very good pool of answers to your question because of this. You are better off asking this question on outdoorsy.com or RVshare. With that said.. I have seriously considered renting my travel trailer. I am not sure I would ever rent out a Class A or C but If I needed the money then it would be a no brainer for me. But I am also not "In love" with my RV. To me Its just an RV... A piece of equipment... Someplace to put my stuff and to sleep while im on vacation. Something I own. I have always seen people that own RV's as tenacious DIY'ers. For the most part, We all own RV's because we good at problem solving and like a challenge. So it surprises me that these posts about renting get so much hate. The responses are never really helpful. Just a bunch of owners giving reasons whey would never rent "Their" RV... Not really any reasons that apply to the general public. People can make alot of money doing this plus if you rent through outdoorsy/RVshare then anything that IS broken will be covered by a security deposit and/or insurance anyway. Seriously.. What is the worst case scenario? They crash it and you get a new RV? AC maybe? A Window? Awning? as long as you ask for a big enough security deposit then you can fix almost anything. And how often is that going to happen anyway? My guess is not often. And by the time something major DOES break. You will probably have already paid off your RV with the profits you made from rentals. If you rent your RV for 12 weeks out of the year your looking at 6K? Plus If you are handy then you can even profit when they do break something by doing the repairs yourself. This is post mainly applies towards travel trailers. I dont know if I would be brave enough to rent out a motorhome. That is where you can get into some serious repair bills. Anyway.. Just my 2 cents. good luck and let us know if you actually went through with it and how it worked out for you I am sure there are alot of others out there that are curious about this and are on the fence about it.

Actually I have a Class C and seriously considering this...why.. well we just got back from a great 2 weeks on the road. Great time...but my wife is now thinking she may want bigger...we have a 2017 Jayco 26X1 (RedHawk). I have 3 boys which are not getting any smaller and the thought of having bunk beds is rather appealing now, plus I feel much more comfortable behind the wheel now (initially I was a bit nervous about driving a 26ft home). Now I'm fully comfortable, towed my Wrangler this time around and we had a blast.

Downside though...we still owe 60K on this one and I know we won't get near that to sell it. So maybe we rent out for a year, pay it down considerably with the profits, then trade up for the next model and recoup some of the lost costs with it. Still debating it and have to get my wife to align to this new thought I have, cause the cleaning of the camper is the challenge.
