There is suppose to be a gap, but, there is also a weather seal that should be on top of the door to seal that gap. Our 2003, which we traded off earlier this year, had the same issue. The original seal had begun to dry rot, crack, break, and was compressed to the point there was no longer a seal. We caught it, and fixed it, before there was any water damage, but, not before the camper filled up with dirt daubers and wasps. The seal can be easily replaced, or, you can use a foam rubber weather seal large enough to seal the gap. We went with a factory replacement that we ordered through a local dealer.
