Theater Seating in Precept 31UL

I see talk about unhappiness with the standard couch, but I haven't seen a post from anyone who actually has the Theater Seating - either as the factory option or as a retrofit. Can anyone here report on real life experience with this?

We picked up our 2018 35S about 3 weeks ago. We're very happy with the theater seating. So much better than the sofa.

Good to hear. . . . The standard couch in the 31UL measures ~60-1/2 inches across. I'm going to guess that the theater seating installation in your 35S is wider than that. The piece of information I'm missing is how Jayco would be able to install theater seating in the 31UL and not have to sacrifice tandem cup holders in a center armrest sort of arrangement. From my reading on the internet, from several different RV furniture mfrs, it appears that a left-right pair of recliners typically measures 58 inches when there is no center unit at all, and 66 inches when the center unit is added (3 separate pieces connected together). So to complete the puzzle we must now find a 31UL that has the theater seating option, if indeed such a thing exists, and learn how that has been accomplished.

I have found a new 2017 31UL for sale, with high quality pics, on rvtrader.com, that does have the theater seating, and with the center divider and tandem cup holders. It APPEARS that they are able to do it in the 60-1/2 inches used by the standard sofa. Somehow.

We have a 2015 31ul and retrofit the reclining theater seating with the center divider with cup holders. Love it. Really looks nice and is comfy.

Bob, how about some pictures. When both slides are in for traveling, is the walkway space any less then with standard sofa?

Dave, the space to walk with both slides in is about the same, if anything a tiny bit more.

Great pictures. Thanks so much for posting. We have a 2016 31ul and are considering doing the same thing. Did Jayco do the retro fit or someplace else. Ballpark figure for cost?

Theater Seating

My dealer ordered it from Jayco and did the installation. Cost $ 2700 installed. Took 3 weeks from order to install. Expensive, but nothing too good for MY wife.

Do the leg rest panels come out when fully reclined, to near parallel to the floor, as with a typical residential recliner?

Yes, just like a regular recliner. Sat down on it one day to watch a movie and missed it. Woke up an hour and a half later.

We have them in our Alante, and they are comfortable. My favorite place to sit.

Theatre seating

We have an Alante 315 with a sofa. I want to replace with theatre seating. Not getting much help from dealer. I thought about after market recliners but the sofa is located is on the slide out and there is about a 4" base under the back half of the sofa. This makes it difficult to put a after market recliner because the base is uneven. Has anyone replaced or modified the base or been able to add theatre or recliners?
I see some one paid $2700 for the upgrade and I guess that would be an option but that seems rather steep for an RV recliner!

We have the recliners in our 2017 Precept 31UL. Love them! No regrets.

Seatbelt configuration, for the theatre seats, may be most of the expense. Just guessing.

Retrofit theater/recliner seating

Here is what I did to retrofit my Alante 31P. I got a quote from my local Jayco dealer and this is the quote I got: Theater seating $2700, shipping $500, and installation $500. That would be $3700 and with tax about $4000. Ridiculous! I bought these recliners on Amazon for about $750 with no tax and free shipping from RecPro (Charles 58" wall hugger). I had to mount the unit on a sheet of 5/8" plywood and then mounted the plywood on the slide out base. Mounting is shown in photos. I covered the exposed wood with carpet. I was able to use the standard seat belts with no modification. The trade off was that I had to mount the seats on the slide out base which makes it about 4" higher than standard seating but the seats are so soft and comfortable the trade of is well worth it in my opinion. The color is a very close match to my existing vinyl fabric (Putty). We took our RV to Yosemite a few weeks ago and I am very pleased with the retrofit. Just wanted to pass this on as an option. Please note that the photos for the mounting are tilted 90 degrees. I couldn't edit them in this forum link.
