I used to change it every 5000 miles, but now its only when the DIC says its time, and even then I wait a tank of fuel or so. My wifes Impala goes about 7000 miles between and my Tahoe can be anything from 2500 to 5000 miles depending on what I am doing (It gets worked most of its life, plowing snow in the winter and towing in the summer, very little actual road time). I run full synthetic 15W50 in all of my engines year round. Tahoe has 220000 miles and Impala has 175000 miles and no engine work done so far. I must be doing something right

I change the oil on my cars and truck every 5000 kms (3000 miles) except on my new car that I use for Business, I change it every 7500 kms (4500 miles) because it is mainly hwy. Towing, stop and go driving is the worse or short trips where you don't give the engine a chance to warm up fully which is considered severe service requiring the 5000 kms service. I change fluid/filter and adjust the bands as needed in the automatic transmission every 50,000 kms (30,000 miles)

If it makes you feel better to do every 3,000 miles that's fine, but, really that isn't necessary. To each their own.

I use the manufacturer interval. 5k for the truck and 7.5k for my wife's.
Improvements in both oil and engines makes the old 3k interval only for old schoolers.
IMO it is a waste of $$$ and resources.

My owners manual says 3750 mi for oil changes - works out to every 3 months if you're on a 15K miles/year schedule. So I do my oil every 3 months or so. I only use conventional oil. I'd say its 50/50 DIY vs paid at the mechanic. I only work on cars during good weather months, which are scarce in the northeast.
I think if I did the job myself and bought a high quality filter and name brand oil, I could probably justify going longer between oil changes. The problem is when I get it done by the "pros". I know they use the cheap stuff to make a profit. That's the main reason to change the oil often, IMO.

On Sallie's new CRV we change it every year. My Ram gets changed every 5K.

Once a year on my daily driver. I put around 10-15K/yr on it. I did the same with my old Honda CRV and it lasted around 170K miles until I traded it in still running strong.
The main reasons for changing the oil is because it can break down due to heat and the additives get used up. Synthetic oils are more heat-tolerant and modern formulations have additives that last a lot longer. In addition, modern engines have tighter tolerances with less blow-by and fewer contaminants in the oil. These three things mean that frequent oil changes are a waste of time and money.

Mini coopers go 15k between changes. There are some laws out there now outlawing 3k oil changes as bad for enviroment. Oil change places make more the more often you change. I go 6k on my cummins diesel ,12 qts. $54 at Walmart.

I change the oil in the Mazda 3 and 5 every 5k, with Mobile 5K regular oil, and in my PU once a yr, whether it needs it or not, it's a garage queen except when I hook a boat up to it or we take it during the summer since it has the better AC of the 3 vehicles.
