X23B with EcoBoost MPG
Hi all, new to the forums (and Campers in general). I have a 2012 F150 Ecoboost. I just purchased a 2013 X23B. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar set up and what kind of gas mileage I could expect. If this has been covered already please let me know. Thanks!

It depends on what gears you have. I have a 2014 F150 Ecoboost Crew Cab, Long Bed, with Max Tow 3.73 and I get 10mpg pulling a very similar sized trailer as the X23B. For reference my 7.3 Powerstroke got 11-12.5mpg pulling the same trailer so not much difference. The key to towing with the EB is to let the torque do all the work. If you are in the throttle constantly it will pull as fast as you can go but MPG will suffer. I should also mention that I only run 92 octane when towing.

Not specifically that combo, but no matter what you tow and tow it with that has a gas engine, you can expect 8-12, with 10 mpg being the most common answer. Even the most fuel efficient tow vehicles eat boat loads of gas when towing a box down the road. You have to take a couple of trips and find the baseline. Keep in mind that wind, hills, and steep grades will be a factor.
I'm averaging about 10 with my rig and I have a 5.3 v8. My X20E is only a couple of hundred pounds lighter than your X23B.
What's important to me isn't that it get a certain MPG, but that it consistently get's the same mileage over a period of time. When the mileage drops, there is usually something wrong.

Awesome thanks. I have the 3.73 rear end with the max tow as well. Just trying to get a rough baseline as I start planning some trips.
That's a good point DocBrown. I'm sure a trailer brake could easily get hung up without really knowing. With a solid baseline you can gauge it.
Appreciate the input!

I can certainly agree with all of the responses here. My current TV is a 2007 Ford F150, 4.6 V8 with a factory "tow package" (transmission cooler, 3:55 rear gear, and frame hitch). Not towing, this truck will net me around 18 to 20 MPG; towing, 10 MPG tops. My truck does not have the factory "MPG" display option in its center cluster readout, but I have a SCANGUAGE II; this plugs into your OBD II port and provides the same...MPG, Miles to Empty, transmission temps, and more tid bits you may be interested in. Go here to see what it can provide if interested:

Good thought. I wasn't even thinking of something like that. More along the lines of engine/computer issues. But now that you say that, poor mileage could indicate a lot of potential issues.

I have same TT, same year. Getting about 10mpg in my Ram. Haven't taken it anywhere long distance yet though. May do a little better on longer trips.

I guess we have to remember that we are basically pulling a brick of sorts when it comes down to aerodynamics.

Pulling a 22FB with a 2012 F150 EcoBoost w/ 3.73, Max Tow and HD Payload, I got around 11 MPG. This was the average on a 5000 mile trip but it was pretty consistent with shorter trips in the 200 mile range. The 22FB GVWR was around 6000 lbs.
