Sanitize hot water heater?
I'm currently sanitizing my fresh water system.I wasn't sure if I was supposed to sanitize my hot water heater so for the time being I drained and bypassed it.Im currently in the let it set state.Should I go out and fill it with the bleach water solution or just finish sanitizing and rinse it out a few times?Water didn't stink or look nasty in anyway but has been sitting full for a few month.Ill be using it around thanksgiving and just wanted to get it done.

I include it in my sanitizing routine. I fill the fresh water tank with the proper strength solution and then fill the water heater and all lines using the rv pump.

I sanitize the hot water heater when I sanitize the whole trailer in the spring. Don't worry about it during the summer when we are using it or when I winterize in the fall. Haven't had a problem with that process for the 22 years we have owned our FWs.

In that case I do most of my flushing connected to the city water connection. Once done, add a bit of water to the FW tank, and drain, I'll do that a few times, to get most of the residual water out, then fill the gravity tank, with the drain port opened. It is a lot of water in your case.

The tank drain takes forever,I've been running the water pump though the kitchen sink into the gray tank and out to the orange tree.Ive got one more rinse cycle to do then I should be good.

I guess I'm different. I do not sanitize the water heater as it is never used for drinking or cooking. Drinking and cooking are always done from the cold water side.
