Sleep Number Bed for a 37FS

In January 2016, we replaced our original mattress on our king size bed in our 2015/2016 Seneca 37FS with a Sleep Number Bed. Since the mattress has to slide under the small slide out during travel, we felt this might work. It does.

However, I have learned, for use of no better words, we like to sleep ON a mattress, instead of IN a mattress. Both of us sleep with the mattress at 100. People that say they like to sleep at a number 35 like to sleep IN the mattress, instead of ON a mattress. Anyway, both us were surprised as to how soft number 100 was on the sleep number bed.

After 15 months, we decided to experiment and purchased hard cell foam from a mattress foam company, that custom cuts to our dimensions. We had a foam pad cut to go under each sleep number bladder. They are 2 inches thick and shorter than the bladder chambers by 4 inches on all sides.

We've had the foam pads under the bladders for a week and the results are very favorable. So far both of us are still sleeping at the 100 number, but the wife has talked about trying a slightly lower number.

Now we have a very firm mattress and it still slides under the slide out. We are basically staying in the Seneca full time, so yes it matters.

Saw this other posting and started to comment within it, but decided it was better to post on a new thread.

Ric, sounds like your mattress isn't working correctly. I'm about 200 lbs and sleep at 55 and I like a firm mattress. If I put it at 100, I would make no depression in the mattress at all. Mine recommends resetting the system monthly (I haven't done that).

We have one in the house... I put my side at 100 - BEFORE getting on the mattress... If I set it at 100 when I am on it... too soft.

Thank you for the responses.

Wondering what you mean by resetting it? If that means, deflating and re-inflating, we do that about every two weeks and sometimes every day. Every time we put the small slide in and out.

Any way, its working very good with the foam under the bladders.

Personally, as far as firmness, I'm pretty comfortable with a concrete pad covered with carpet.

Ric, I don't have access to the owners guide but its essentially deflate totally, fill, and then set for your setting.

Unless Sleep Number has changed their pumps, mine came with a note on how to re-calibrate the pump. This note said to do this each time the pump is plugged in. I know this is a bit of a pain to remember each time, but you get used to it and the Sleep Number system is very well worth it for me (full time).

The re-calibrate procedure for my pump is:

Plug it in and run the pump up to 100. After it finishes at 100, turn in back to 50, then back to 100 and then back to 50. Do both side if you have 2 bladders, but do not inplug between doing each side or you will have to do the first one again.

It only takes a couple of minutes.

Guys, once again I have to thank all of you for your interest and concerns in our problems.

Ed, I did not know about the "go to 100, deflate to 50, and go back to 100".

We once again deflated our system as we closed everything up and moved again. I can tell you that the 2 inch foam pad under the unit has done exactly what we wanted. Once again, we sleep on our mattress and not in it. Our sleep numbers are 100.
