I think maybe at home also, gone 3 months to return to an $800.00 water bill in an empty rental. Toilet float sunk

Didn't used to, but apparently a faucet was not turned off completely when I was gone all day. Tank filled, and water was coming out the bottom. Campground neighbor shut off my water.
Now, unless I'm full hookups with valves open, I shut it off.

When camping every time we leave the trailer the water gets shut off, when we are home and leave our Bungalow the water gets shut off. Seen to many pipes break when nobody is home and it costs thousand of dollars to fix. Seems to me that 10 seconds to turn off the water is much better than spending days getting the trailer fixed.

The 90* fitting on the city water connection placed the hose in harms way.

lol, no we are older. Kids grown up out of the house. My wife knows that in the middle of the night to turn the pump on the way to the bathroom and back off on the way back to bed. As for hookups, we just push the flush lever and deal with the water in the morning.

Whenever on city water, the valve is closed whenever the rig is left unattended.
Try and remember to switch off the pump when we leave the campsite (running 50/50 actually remembering).

We only have on site water about 25% of the time, it stays connected if someone is there which is most of the time. If we leave for any reason, I turn it off.
Related, the water inlet for my ice maker here at home froze solid last night causing the hose that connects to the back of the freezer to back itself off the freezer, causing a little micro-flood on my wood floors (grrrrrr) I have to take the same approach with my home fridge now too until I figure that problem out.

A trailer is not like a house that never moves. Every time you move your trailer it's like a 8.0 earthquake so plumbing can shake loose.
I once saw a motorhome in a campground with water running out the door while the owners were away. Somebody had already turned off the outside water but it was still flowing out the closed door. I always wondered how deep it got inside.

I saw a huge travel trailer 30 to 35' in length doing that a couple of months ago at a park in Las Vegas. It still had the new, temporary license plates on it. I had mixed emotions about it.

About a year and 1/2 ago, I posted about an incident that happened to me when a camping neighbor borrowed my fresh water hookup to fill their holding tank. When they finished, they reconnected my black tank flush hose, and turned it on while I was making my evening campground walk. When I returned, I was greeted with water running out from under my trailer . The black tank had filled and overflowed the toilet. Fortunately, I had just dumped & flushed the tank earlier that day. After that happened, I added a lever-activated ball valve attachment to the end of the hose, at the trailer inlet. I leave it in the OFF position unless I'm flushing the black tank . . . JUST IN CASE!
As a rule of thumb, when camping without a water hook-up, I always shut off the water pump if I leave for more than an hour or so. After reading this thread, I think I'll add another shut-off to the city water inlet on my trailer. That way, I can easily turn it off when I leave, and back on when I get back.

Been leaving it on while camping for 40 years without any issues. Have never personally met anyone who has had a problem.

Always turn it off when leaving the CG. Turn it off at the spigot, at the Y I use, and a shutoff right before the hose attaches to the rig. Probably overkill, but I think the 10 seconds it takes is worth it

I shut it off only when we leave our seasonal site to go home during the week. Otherwise it stays on all weekend or however long we're there.
Probably not the smartest idea. It's an unnecessary risk that could spell disaster if something were to blow. A blown hose spewing water inside the trailer for hours could surely destroy the rig or cause significant damage at the least. There are times when we leave the camper unattended for hours with the spigot on. I really should be shutting if off when we go out for any extended length of time. This is something I will do this upcoming season.

Neighbours Flood opened my eyes
Last year while camping in Michigan I saw the neighbours RV pouring water out every available orifice. It was thier second trip in a brand new rig. That was enough to convince me. Whenever we are leaving the site for anything more then an hour we shut off the water at the spigot.... and pull in the awning, for different reasons!
I added this Y Connector so that is a simple matter of sliding the lever to the off position.

That looks like the setup I use now. I use one side for the water & the other when its time to flush the black tank
