Oh great! Brand new trailer and...
...there I am sanitizing the water system when I discover the outdoor shower unit is leaking like a stuck pig from the hose connection. I am hoping this is not a sign of things to come with a 2011 travel trailer that hasn't even made its maiden voyage yet...or of Jayco build quality.

The dealer should have picked up on that during the PDI when he tested the fresh water system. Most all new RV`s do have a small issue or two to work out. That one is fairly minor in nature.

Could be something minor like a missing washer/O ring.

Also discovered...
...that for some odd reason the black water tank reads 1/3 full and it's never even be used!

Get used to that, its the nature of the beast. I just checked my readouts today and the black was showing 1/3 full and its empty. That happens quite often.

Did you not check the outside shower on your PDI? In a perfect world everything would never give you a problem. The leak could be a loose fitting, it should of been corrected before you took it home.
The tank sensors will not give an accurate reading due to toilet paper or any other debris getting caught up on them. This is my 3rd TT and none have given me accurate readings.

To answer your question, they did a thorough PDI with me but the water tank was not full thus I was not able to see any of the taps in action. That could very well have been due to the bone-numbing cold that was going on at the time and everything was still winterized. So checking the function of the taps was virtually impossible.
As for the readings coming from the black tank, as I said before, it had never been used as it was a brand new trailer so there is no chance that any sensors could be affected by debris.

Since it's new, the black tank hasn't been "used" but perhaps it's 1/3 full of water / antifreeze? Have you opened the drain to verify?

to the OP's question...mine leaks too. The outdoor shower valve on our previous Jayco leaked too. I was told in another forum that this leaking around the base oft he shower head was normal...something to do with the mixing valve. Maybe I was misinformed? It pretty much looks like a normal, run of the mill, shower head. Maybe I should take it apart and give it a once over.

From what I know the outside shower has an anti syphon devise (ergo the leaking water by the start of the hose). This should only leak when your using the shower. There should be documentation about this on the inside lid of the shower. Hope this helps.

Had the same issue
Hello, I had the same issue but easy fix was it was not tight so I just had to tighten it up. The winterized it so as per the manual they say to do this. Good luck!

Mine doesn't leak, but I just came back inside from securing a bathroom cabinet shelf to the wall where the factory "forgot" to secure. I noticed this today while trying to use the shelf for the first time, I noticed it sagging.
