Idaho Travel Recommendations

Starting to pull together info for a 2019 August/September west coast trip.

My present routing through Idaho will be I-84 northwest out of Utah following I-84 to Oregon....., but considering possible route deviations along the way for "must see" locations.

Would appreciate any recommended Idaho "must see" locations..., and National, State, or private Campground recommendations along the way. I anticipate some boondocking and camping w/hook-ups along the way.

I've also created a couple separate JOF threads for other States that I will be traveling through.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Just keep on rolling to Oregon. I used to live on the Idaho/Oregon border, there's nothing there but sagebrush and beets.

Once in Oregon pop off I-84 at Baker City and spend a night up at Anthony Lakes.

Bob, when we lived in Boise we visited this place https://www.go-idaho.com/Craters-Of-...onal-Monument/ and it was neat plus they have a campground. Not sure how far off the beaten path though. Also this park in Hagerman was incredible https://parksandrecreation.idaho.gov...ousand-springs

Coming in from I84 in Utah, in northern Utah, you can visit the golden spike national monument, location of where the transcontinental railroads met as the were originally built. Near there is Morton Thiokol, home of many of the solid rocket boosters used in the space program.

Once in Idaho, in Twin Falls, the Perrine Bridge crosses the snake river canyon, this bridge is the only bridge in North America that is legal year around for BASE jumping, because of this it attracts base jumpers from all around the world, you can see as many as 80 jumpers in a given day. 2 miles east of the bridge is where Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon in 1974. Part of the ramp still exists. 4 miles east of Twin Falls is Shoshone Falls, depending upon the season the falls can be awesome, or just a trickle, either way, it is a beautiful park with hiking and biking trails all around.

North of Twin Falls, Hwy 93 becomes Hwy 75, and leads to Sun Valley, and nort to the Sawtooth Mountains, which are rugged, and beautiful.

Continuing along I84, in Glenn’s Ferry, there is a monument for Three Island Crossing State Park, where early settlers crossed the river heading west to Oregon. There is a campground with water and electric, a dump station is on site, but not at each campsite. There is also a vineyard and a golf course, with a bar/restaurant that has great food. The vineyard has a campground with full hookups.

Just to the south west, Bruneau Dunes State Park has a campground, no hookups as I remember, but the sand dunes are large and awesome.

Mountain Home has an active air force base, home of the 366th fighter wing.

Boise is busy, and is one of the fastest growing metro regions nationally. There is a lot to see and do in Boise.

Just a few miles North of Boise, you can find large mountains, small mountain communities, lakes, camping, gold and silver mines, ghost towns.

As Brained mentioned above, you will see a lot of sagebrush, but if you are open to exploring, there are many options, and a lot of beautiful, rugged country.

I appreciate all the responses thus far and plan to locate each recommendation as they are posted on my Idaho map.

Once I have a good representation of "must see" and camping locations along my proposed route through Idaho, then I can re-visit my travel routing.

I'm sure I'll have some follow-up questions as I pull together your recommendations.
