KOA to Feature 'Campground of Future' at RVX

When the doors open March 12 for the first “RVX: The RV Experience” event at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, attendees will be able to travel in time to the year 2030 and get a glimpse into the future of camping.

According to a press release, Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) will showcase an immersive, virtual tour of visionary enhancements to the camping experience. The forecasting is based on KOA’s 57 years in the outdoor hospitality industry, expertise in campground innovation and design, input from other key industry leaders, and understanding of camper preferences and trends through the North American Camping Report, KOA’s annual research initiative.

The Campground of the Future will focus on experimental enhancements for campers in 2030, highlighting ways to connect with nature and to each other. A virtual reality aspect of the display will allow people to immerse themselves into five futuristic campground concepts showcasing different design elements based on landscapes in urban, seaside, forested, mountainous and desert campground settings.

The Campground of the Future display will include features such as:
Automated site selection and check in, including geofencing technology to recognize when campers arrive and seamlessly guide them to their preselected campsite.

Blurred lines between the indoors and the outdoors, with the use of open-air design features for common spaces, retractable roofs on Cabins and glass-floored campsites to perch campers over natural landscapes such as rivers, valleys or crevasses.

On-site automated voice command technology for ordering services, signing up for experiences or delivery of necessities such as firewood.
class="p2">Natural gathering spaces designed around the campground environment to facilitate recreation activities that emphasize campers’ priority to tap into the benefits of the outdoors. Recreation areas will support the gathering of multi-generational groups, hiking trails will lead directly into the campground and pets will have dedicated parks with enhanced water features and washing areas.

“Advancements in technology and the ever-evolving approach to environmental standards will certainly impact how people prefer to interact in the outdoors through camping, and also impact the way we design campgrounds in the future,” said KOA President Toby O’Rourke. “We believe camper expectations will continue to increase over time, and the thoughtful use of technology will play a key role in meeting those expectations.
“The day is quickly coming when self-driven recreational vehicles will arrive at campgrounds, park themselves in pre-selected campsites and immediately allow guests to begin immersing themselves into the outdoors.”

That all sounds awful. So many places to park and have a “natural “ experience without all that bs.

Pie in the sky. All you have to do is look back to see how little things have changed. It's becoming much more difficult and expensive to build a campground over the years. Most of KOA's grown is not new campgrounds, just old campgrounds coming under the KOA brand, mostly for marketing purposes. The vast majority of KOA's are single ownership franchises and I don't see these campgrounds having the resources to invest what would be needed to make this happen in the next 10 years. You may see a couple campgrounds as described above, but it won't be near the "norm". You will see a much harder time getting into campgrounds as the # of RV's continues to climb.

IMO, it is a marketing tool: Folks will watch videos and select what they like etc. Viewer responses will be recorded for KOA to try figure out what they should do in the future... like Facebook and that ilk does to select which ads they display on your device.

Move along, nothing of interest here.

In Wisconsin 40 years ago state parks were free to enter and camping was $2.00 per night. It was all first come first served. Remember that's when Motel 6 charged just $6 per night today they charge around $60 a night

At least they still keep the 6 in the price. Next price increase $66 or $600.

But leaving the lights on for you has become more expensive.

Awwwww come on??? They have a hard time keeping the 50A connections working in each campsite? They cant keep their firewood in-stock now, how will that work by voice command ordering it. They would have to fix the WiFi to make all that stuff work -

It will never happen unless EVERYONE has a self-driving RV that can self-park a 38-ft trailer in a 24-ft space.

What ever happened to........... Keep It Simple Stupid?

The simplier the campground, the better we like it.
