Nova Scotia Trip

Planning a trip to Nova Scotia to celebrate our retirement. Decided not to camp since we decided to leave our dog home so w can do more and get there quicker from New Jersey.

We are planning to stay a night or two in Maine and then drive to Nova Scotia to enjoy the scenery. Would the ferry be any better?

Can anyone recommend what areas to start with? Where to stay? etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ferry is expensive.. Whether is saves time or not depends on what you want to see in Nova Scotia.. If its the Cabot Trail no. If you are happy with Yarmouth or want to go to Lunenberg Halifax or Peggys Cove yes. But we take the far cheaper Digby Ferry. That however leaves from St John and you miss the spectacular Fundy National Park

I think you are making a huge mistake with a night or two in Maine. Just take 95 to Houlton and keep going on rt 2, Seems you are in a hurry.

The scenery in Nova Scotia is fine but its kind of farmy in spots. I have been there several times for six weeks at a time. Cabot Trail is very pretty and also Louisbourg, Lunenberg Peggys Cove.

We are probably going to stay in Maine where we live and go to the County and also Grand Manan Island ( technically NB) and Cobscook Bay State Park. Perhaps run up to North Sydney and ferry to Newfoundland for three weeks.. Depends on Dr . appointments.

You will probably want to go to Bar Harbor.. Everyone does. Blech. While it is a working town its hard to see what it really is in the summer. I do like it in December when its all boarded up for the most part.

Boothbay Harbor is more interesting.. Whale watch tours and a mail boat to Monhegan which is about 10 miles off shore. A real working fishing island with a grand inn. It is the artists favorite. Hiking to oceanside cliffs.
