State parks are charging extra for dump

Please read the picture. If one state is doing it the rest will follow in the coming years.

So basically now, people will just dump their black tanks discreetly into ditches, bushes, etc. and the parks will have a major biohazard on their hands.

It's the same concept as people dumping their trash on the side of the road instead of taking it to the dump. While I don't agree with them doing such, I somehow understand where they are coming from given the ridiculous charges and fees they impose at the local dumps.

Lower the cost of things if you want people to use them and comply, otherwise they will find other ways that benefit themselves and harm others.

$10-$20 is unreasonable. Let me translate the statement for you...

The department is adding new self-pay RV dump stations...

Translation: We need another revenue stream and want to continue privatizing services. So we struck up a deal with Sani-Star to install fancy, high-tech, machines with credit card access and a locking mechanism.

As part of a pilot program...
Translation: Until we can offer power and data services at all parks so the corporation can install their revenue machines.

The success of the program will determine the implementation of additional self-pay RV dump stations...
Translation: Once we start generating revenue, and we can hand in a biased report showing profit, we'll start lobbying other states for Sani-Star implementation.

Get ready for a whole bunch of roadside dumping as a result of this. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people dump directly on the new machines as a form of protest.

I could see something like this in WI state parks. Our parks are no longer subsidized by the state. They are 100% fee funded. That means finding new revenue streams.

While I don't like it I can understand it to a certain degree. Actually surprised more dont already charge for it.

Our local Cabelas used to be free. They then installed one of those pay machines which was $10. Now they don't offer dumping at all. Obviously something happened but who knows what.

I often pay $10 to dump at Flying J on my way home from a trip. I have absolutely no issue with that cost since they are a private company and I am paying them for a service. Last time I checked, we were already paying to support the amenities in these state and national parks through our taxes.

The same thing that happened at many rest areas, the "pigs" dumped, no hose and drove off.

The use of a pay dump station will involve a credit card. This will enable the provider to track your dumping usage. The data can then be sold to marketing companies. Get ready for targeted toilet advertising.

To me the fee seems rather high especially at the $20 end for self service. I pay from $5 to $10 to pump out a boat at private run marinas and get assistance from a dock hand. I am sure they are not losing money.

I have to think that it costs them more to maintain the washroom facilities that are used by the campers that don't have their own facilities (pups and tents). It strikes me that we are doing them a favor and saving them money by using the dump station.

I'll shut up now in case some SP wonk just got an idea to add credit card readers to the toilet stalls...

I don't think Arizona state parks are charging extra its the 30 bucks a night that kills me.We like the geezer pricing better at the Federal Parks.

$20-30K for a travel trailer... No problem.
$30-50K for a truck to pull said trailer... No problem.
$20-50 a night for a campsite... No problem.
$100-200 worth of fuel and beer and groceries... No problem.

$10-20 bucks to dump out the tanks after using all of the above... AWWW HELLZ NAW! Time for a good old fashioned protest!

Get over it. Pay the money for the service rendered or stay at home.

Why would you go and dump your tanks in a ditch and contaminate the water tables out of spite? Childish.

It's not about the money, it's about setting up another corporation to add another profit center to our public lands. The last corporation they put into this mix added $8 to the reservation cost. Why should profit be part of the camping experience on public lands?

I only hope I never have to pay 20 bucks to dump in a dump station or have to resort to ditch dumping, lol

I doubt its profit, they are just looking for anyway to cover costs of running state parks.

Nice. First they change the reservation system in California in August and the system sucks. Now they are adding fees...

I remember my dad telling me to crawl under the door in the restroom at our local airport. He loved the lunch meals they served but just couldn't understand the fee to use the restroom.
