What Are Your Big Camping Trips Planned for 2018

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!

A new year means new adventures.

What camping trips do you have planned for 2018.

For me, I have planned the following:

Washington DC (100K One Day Hike) and Gettysburg in April
Palm Springs (hoping to hike Cactus to the Clouds) and Vegas (celebrating if I make it) in May
Jayco Rally in June
Rocky Mountain National Park in August (Will be summiting Longs Peak and running in the 6 day 120 mile TransRockies run - Just hoping to finish - no olympian here)
Bank of America 500 in Charlotte in September

Chime in with your travel plans. I am always looking for new adventures I never thought of.

Happy New Year

Bob

Wow!! You've got a lot planned.

We will likely be purchasing ours soon.

Once we do, we will try to book a local park for spring break with my parents (they have a trailer also, and they will help us figure it all out on our first trip).

For summer, we would like to go to a Texas state park and also visit near by Six Flags.

Likely another state park visit after that and meet up with parents and maybe friends.

Looking forward to seeing where others are going and to get ideas. Can't wait to make fun travel memories with the family.

We will likely do several excursions to the Black Hills of SD and do ATVing, and we want to do at least one trip to the Big Horns to do the same. The Hills are under 250 miles from me so it is a great place to go over my 3 day weekends.

And then there is Sturgis.

This is going to be our first year with our toy hauler, in the past we have just loaded the ATV in a trailer and headed out, and pitched a tent for sleeping, but as much as we like to do this we had to buy another camper. We towed a 28' 5th wheel for years as the kids were growing up and then we parted with the camper, but both the wife and I miss the comforts and are ready to get back into it.

Spring can't come soon enough.

We are planning to go to Pigeon forge, TN the first of May for 10 days with our new FW. We will be meeting my sisters and their DH’s there as they are bringing their campers from FL. This is now becoming an annual event to meet somewhere and enjoy each other and camping. Other than that, it will be twice a month camping for long weekends somewhere within about 2-3 hours drive.

We have our yearly Florida trip coming up in a little less than a month. We have our yearly week long trip to the lake in July planned. We are going to Anchor's Down in Tennessee this August, this will be our family's first trip there. Those are our 3 bigger trips we have planned this year.

Other than that we will hit the beach in Delaware once or twice this year. We always do a fall camping trip to Gettysburg. Haven't been in a while, but I'd like to go to Lancaster, PA this year. We have a lot of great state park campgrounds in Western Maryland and southern PA that are within 2 hours drive where we do some nice weekend trips. I was hoping to hit NYC for a long weekend in early December last year, but we ran out of time.

I recently got promoted (but lose my company car, lose my schedule flexibility and about $15,000 in overtime from last year) and will have to figure out how to schedule trips without burning too much more leave. I used to be able to load up my hours at the beginning or end of the week to get my 40 hours in... but now I will be in a position where I have to work specific hours and days and can't adjust my schedule.

What campground? We are going to Anchor's Down in August, not too terribly far from PF.

2018 plans

Can’t wait till we get out of the deep freeze so first trip is Cabo San Lucas in Feb for 3 weeks. Puerto Aventura for 2 weeks in March, and then camping along the Bourbon Trail in April. I love being retired!

You can find us tucked into a corner in several of OH and PA's state park campgrounds. Might even catch us in IN, where there are also several great parks. Stop in and say hey if you find us!

We have done several multi day drives from Ga to the final destinations like
Colorado Springs, San Antonio, Niagara Falls, Bar Harbor, and Washington DC.
We do 2 of these trips a year and at least 1 local trip (long weekend) every month. This year we are thinking on longer local trips every month verses the multiday travel destinations. This is more of my interpretation of DW's comments so this is subject to change. I was told a trip to Memphis is in our spring trip planning. We have also talked about going to see the Ark in KY.

We've got St. Augustine Fl, Upstate NY, Mount Airy NC, and Ft. Wilderness on the ticket so far. That is in addition to all of the Boondocking that we do on a regular basis.

We see my Grandmothers every year and add on some side trips. This year is through the Dakotas, a week in Yellowstone, a week near Seatle, with short stops in Denver, Omaha, and KC clocking in at just under a month.

Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Cody, WY, Mt Rushmore, and Custer SP in South Dakota. Not sure what we have planned for the return to Calif.

Since this will be our first long distance trip of about 3 weeks, not sure if we will want to hurry home, or do a bit more site seeing.

We have two week-long trips to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT - one in May and one in August. September we are still deciding on whether it will be Dinosaur National Monument in NE Utah/NW Colorado or Homolovi State Park in Northern Arizona. Also looking at a couple long w/e trips to Washington or Oregon coast and the North Cascades in Washington.

Other than a few two dayers here and there, our first big trip of the year will be mid-February for 26 days. Big Bend, New Mexico and Arizona, along with various Elks Lodges and Walmart parking lots.

Have a week in Spearfish SD followed by a week in the Big Horns across in WY. Then some shorter longish weekend trips around MN until August when we'll be up in Copper Harbor MI for 10 days. Last longer trip will be to the north shore of Lake Superior to do some day hiking on the Superior Hiking Trail using Tettegouche as our basecamp.

Really need to retire but not for a few more years.
