Pumping from portable tank to fill trailer tank?
Anyone have a suggestion on a good 12vdc pump that could be used to pump water from a portable rank into your camper tank?
Thanks in advance, tom

You could get creative with a couple of inexpensive winterizing kits... T-into your existing waterpump on both sides with a couple of valves and some hose.
Or just get a second shurflow

I guess it would depend on the size of the portable tank. If its too big to lug inside the camper then I would look for either a 12 volt or 120 volt water pump that fits your bill and will transfer the water to your fresh water fill outside the camper in a reasonably quick fashion

Tom,
How big of a transfer tank? 5 or 6gal can or 20+gal?
I bought a battery powered kerosene transfer pump to entry a 5gal can if/when needed. If a large tank, if you have 110v, you could look at a small pump for a fish tank. One that can be used without submerging the pump, just a hose. Or another water pump like what is in the trailer.

I figured just using a 5 gallon aqua tote. ....Just when I cannot string a hose to a campground spigot. Pumping up to my freshwater fill from the ground.

I found a small 12 volt bilge pump that's small enough to fit into the opening of an Aquatainer. I put alligator clips on the wires and about 10 ft of food-grade PVC hose on the discharge. Drop it in, put the hose into the fresh water tank, connect the wires to the RV battery, and stare at it while it transfers. It takes a few minutes to transfer the 7 gallons of water into the trailer's tank, but I'm on vacation and not in a hurry. It didn't cost very much either. Sort of like this one:

5gal can (or so) I would use the battery powered kerosene pump, or the bilge pump that North posted. You may need to raise the can with the pump I suggested. Maybe set it on a small table next to the fresh tank fill.
North, where did you find that pump?

I found it several years ago at a Canadian farm/industrial supply store chain called Princess Auto. Here it is for $25, but I didn't pay that much for it.

TY North!
May have to try to see if they have a store in the Soo area next time we go up to the in-laws cabin.

I have a 45 gallon poly tank that I bring along when camping without water hookups (which is usually only about one trip per year). Last summer I ended up buying a 12v marine bilge pump at Canadian Tire that has threaded inlet and a short hose on the outlet so I am able to run a hose from the spigot on my tank over to the pump which then boosts it up the 3 feet or so into the gravity fill on the RV. I have the alligator clips on wires long enough to clamp onto the truck battery. The set up works well but is admittedly slow... but no hurry when I'm camping ;-)
My only real complaint is that the threading on the pump is not exactly the same as that which is on the garden hose so I need to wrap plenty of plumbing tape around the hose first in order for it to stay put.

We have a 35gal spare tank we haul on our toy trailer. I bought the same 12v pump as we have in the coach, so we have a spare to replace it with. I put hose fittings on each end of the pump and get the power from the trailer hitch coupling.

Canuck,
Consider wiring the pump to a 7 wire trailer plug instead. Wiring would be a lot shorter for storage, and there is power at the rear of the truck already.
I actually did this by wiring a 12v (cigarette style) plug to the 7 wire plug. That way I can plug the air compressor in at the rear of the truck, or any other type of 12v pump if needed....

We camp a lot on the beach and I would have to go off the beach and fill up a 45 gallon bladder a lot and pump it into the trailer tank. I bought a standard RV pump hooked the bladder to the input of the pump pump and the output of the pump into the city water supply on the trailer with a hose. hooked up 12 Volts for the pump to the truck battery and use that as a city water connection I never had to pump water into the trailer. Still had the water in the tank is a standby. When the fawcets were open the pump would start up and pump water and when we shut off the fawcets the pressure would build up and shut the pump off just like the tank in the trailer.
