To be the most helpful, I will direct you to the NPs website to get all the best info on the parkway. There is a strip map they provide that shows every mile of the road and info on upcoming sites and services. Its a little hard to follow at first since its not like a regular page map but rather it is linear from one end of the parkway to the other. Online there are various private web sites that offer info.
Along the way there are numerous historic and natural sites that are all marked on the map. You can exit the parkway every few miles for services like fuel, groceries, and private CG's. There are a handful of NP campgrounds on the parkway and they are all detailed on the map. All are w/o hookups but are free and not reservable. There are also many small towns along the way that might offer interesting activities depending on your interests. I would also direct you to stop at all the visitor centers along the way where there is a wealth of info.
Speed on the parkway is 50 which may seem slow, but you will likely face minimal if any traffic and there are no stoplites or stop signs so you just cruise. We have done all of the parkway and plan on making another trip later this spring. Our experience is that even with the lower speed limit, you can cover just about the same net miles for the day as you do on a regular highway or Interstate because you never have to stop unless you want to and when you stop, there are no lines or searching for parking for your rig.
Enjoy. If you are looking for another similar experience I would suggest the Natchez Trace running from just south of Nashville Tn all the way to Natchez Miss. It is a pleasant and enjoyable drive with similar stops and sites along the way. We have actually taken it a couple times when visiting family on the Miss Gulf coast since it is a no hassle trip pulling the TT and ready made places to overnite. Get there rested and relaxed without the white knuckle of interstate driving.
