Side note; When this happens it usually takes out the receptacle also... Which could be the original cause. AC outlets are rates also....

We plug ours into the house between camping. No issues running the fridge and lights, but I was told when we purchased the camper, you don't run the A/C or microwave unless you are plugged into a 30amp service.
It's the A/C that did this to your cord. They have a lot of draw especially on start up. Be careful because you could damage the A/C unit as well.

A/C and Refridge on electric, good to go.

Totally agree. At first, we used a heavy duty extension and a dog bone 30a to 15a into a garage outlet. You can run one AC unit but just about nothing else. Finally had an electrician come out and install an outdoor covered 30a outlet. Cost just under $300 as the box was outside and they could run around an accessible attic so wasn't as difficult as some.
We are very happy since in Texas it does get warm once in a while! Nice to be able to run both AC units if we are out and about. Or especially just sitting in the driveway!

What brand of duplex receptacle are you referring to if you don't like "Home Depot crap"?

Don't pay any attention to that recommendation. Home Depot and Lowes sell 20amp outlets that are good quality and will work fine.

Yeah, was wondering what brand I would hear. Up here they sell Leviton which I've used for many years with no issues. I don't like the tamper-proof but it's code so no choice (gotta pass laws to protect the stupid)

I ran our 15k ac unit off the the clothes washer plug in the utility room. It was on a 20 amp breaker, the plug on the extension cord got warm but did not melt. All are garage plugs are on a GFI circuit, ac would run awhile the blow the plug. Thanks

Yes, Leviton is the brand most commonly used here in California as well. They are good quality and should provide excellent service when installed properly.

The point of his post is that's what he wants to do and to figure out the best and safest way to do it.

Pay a few pennies more and don't get the lowest price receptacles. In the long run, it will pay you back many times over in time and money..

You can't go wrong with Hubbell. Here's a white one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Hubbell-Recep...s=hubbell+5362
You can probably get it cheaper if you live near an electrical supply house like Graybar.

I wouldn't use the cheap ones but most manufacturers have different lines. No point spending on commercial grade fixtures in a residential setting unless you have money to burn (but then those people aren't in a Jayco forum ).
