Bugs in roof vent?

Last fall, and now again this spring, I've been plagued with ladybugs congregating between the roof vent screen and the cover, even though the cover is tightly closed. I can raise the cover, shoo them all out, close the cover, and within a few minutes there will be half a dozen or more back in there.

So my questions are: How are they getting in? Doesn't the cover seal tightly? Could I be missing seals of some type?

I get some in the bathroom vent where the fan is, but many more in the vent by the kitchen.

For what it's worth, my unit is a 2017 17RK Hummingbird.

Thanks,

JimT

I'm guessing the rubber gasket is cocked or deteriorated.

Or missing?

My previous trailer (A-Liner) had a black plastic seal that slipped over the edge around the vent. The lid would close down on that seal. This trailer does not have that.

Should it?

Every RV I had always gets bugs between the inside screen and dome as well. The fantastic fan, the factory fan, and the factory vents. What is weird, some are way bigger than the screen!

I would think that a rubber gasket would be a must in that area. Mine has one, the last rig I had was also equipped that way.

In fact one sticky problem was the lid sticking on the gasket and not letting it open. A shot of silicone was the fix.

I can remove the screen on mine from below and then it's not a chore to get to it. Those lady bugs can get anywhere!

Lady bugs get everywhere. They walk across the ceiling and window shades leaving tracks. They are a mess and there are a lot of them in Georgia. They get in no matter how the rig is sealed. We have to fumigate it every now and then to kill them all and then vacuum them up. Real PIA!

My wife would hate me if I harmed one. She spends her time rescuing them.

These are not the ladybugs we remember growing up. These things are from Asia and were brought in by the USDA around 1980 to control aphids. Thanks a lot - USDA! Besides being orangish in color instead of red, the main difference is they live through the winter and like to hole up where we live.

Its really sad when they break a leg...you have to shoot them cuz they'll never wear a saddle again.
