Gas in diesel is a bit more common with the gasoline nozzle being smaller than the diesel nozzle. A trick that can work while on the road is to disconnect the line in the engine bay from the in-tank fuel pump, extend the line into a jug(s), and jumper the fuel pump relay to empty the tank. The in-tank pump will leave a bit of a heel of incorrect fuel, but a refilled tank dilutes that out to a point that it is not a concern.
Be careful when using the high volume truck nozzles. I know that on Sprinter vans the high volume filling can cause a spike in pressure within the tank when the tank fill tube gets submerged before the auto cut-off shuts off the flow. That spike of pressure has been known to blow off vent tubes. I don't know if that applies to other brands, but it is something to keep in mind.
