Charging batteries with gen

I bought an inexpensive 1000i generator strictly for charging the batteries while dry camping. My TT has a WFCO WF-8955PEC converter. Would a 2000i generator charge the batteries any faster or does the 1000i gen max out the converter's charge rate. I would buy a 2000i gen if the charging rate was significantly faster.

I would think any 1000 gene would be able to handle charging your battery without any issue but will let pro's chime in

A 2000 won't charge any faster. As long as your only goal is to charge the battery and not run any appliances there's no advantage to a 2000

The input specs on that converter are:
105-130 VAC, 60 Hz (950 watt)

Getting a bigger generator would result in zero change for battery charging. It sounds like your 1000i is the perfect match actually for this.

IMO, with either generator, the WFCO will likely be your bottleneck IF you let the batteries become moderately to seriously discharged. My WFCO, and others on this forum, doesn't stay in 'bulk' mode long enough and then switches to 'float' mode. Float mode has lower current and voltage and takes longer to charge your batteries.

Suggestion: For lower draw from your batteries, start with your batteries fully charged and run the generator to charge your batteries while the greatest use of 12v power is occurring. We did that last summer by running our generator at low speed for 2hr in the morning and 2hr at night when our 12v use was at its maximum. We are very stingy users of 12v - no television or other electronics and used our LED lighting only as needed.

Our mistake (mine, actually ) was not starting to use our generator immediately! We waited about 3 or 4 days. Then our 2 batteries were discharged to about 75% (12.4v) before we started using the generator. After that, even running the generator about 8 hours one day (against the park rules, but, hey, no one else was in the CG and we were the CG hosts ) I could not get the batteries back to fully charged. That blew our plans to run the generator once every few days! We had to run it every day, twice a day to keep from ruining our batteries.

There's more to the story, but the above is probably TMI anyway.

We hand a Honda 1000 we bought in 2006, bought 16 Eagle and wanted to run microwave bought 2000.Liked 1000 better used half a much gas, and easier to move around!

A few other things you might consider. You can pick up a decent battery charger and run that from the generator. Should be a faster charge as you aren't going through the camper inverter. Also, if your generator has a 12 volt output, you might be able to directly charge from there, topping off using AC and the camper inverter to finish via float charge.

If these are bad ideas, someone will point that out.

Keep in mind the 120VAC RATED OUTPUT available at the 120VAC Receptacle on the EU1000i Honda generator is only rated at 120VAC @ 7.5Amps (900WATTS)..

This is right at the maximum AC INPUT SPECs for the WF-8955AN Power Converter unit.

The 120VAC load of 120VAC @ 950 Watts being demanded by the WF-8955AN Converter unit may trip the AC breaker on the generator unit...

Using the EU1000i Honda generator with your trailer shore power cable plugged into it using a RV30A-15A long Adapter will require you to turn off all of the 120VAC Power Drains you may have so that all of the available 120AC power of the generator will be available for the WF-8955-AN Converter Unit.

I suspect the EU1000i Generator will definitely be maxed out running the WF-8955-AN Power Converter during the initial high current period of your battery charging cycle...

I would be more comfortable using the 2KW EU2000i Honda Generator.
