You can carry your gun across state lines, but unless the state has reciprocity you cannot not have it out of it's case and loaded while driving. CANADA being the exception NO GUNS.
Transporting a gun across state lines in the United States is normally not an issue. As long as you follow the laws stated in the Gun Control Act of 1968, which is enforced by the National Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, then you should be fine.

Yep, this is it, I have permits from three states and most of the ones that I can carry those are the states that I travel and if the states that I can't, welllllll now!!! you get it.

If you don't mention it, on a simple traffic stop it is likely nothing will happen.
If the inside of your vehicle reeks of dope or booze you are likely to get searched and the weapon then becomes an issue. USE COMMON SENSE and nothing happens.
In 35 years as an LEO, I never went looking for a gun, or anything else in a vehicle without some very good "founded suspicion" to do so. I did not necessarily need probable cause but that is one step better than founded suspicion.
Use your head, don't do something stupid and you are fine.

And I totally agree with this, the three permit do allow me to carry in most but in those states that want allow it, I always be nice.

If your goal is self defense, having a gun locked in one place and the ammo locked in another kinda defeats the purpose.
For self defense, while traveling a double barrel shotgun with the shortest legal barrel would be my first choice. Handguns are too restricted in different states.
If legal, most states allow a handgun to be loaded in a vehicle. However, long arms must be unloaded, whether the vehicle is moving or not. A simple slip-on shell carrier on the shotgun's stock will make it legal, yet easily loaded in an emergency.

For those who do decide to carry a loaded pump action shotgun in their vehicle, make sure you are carrying it in Condition 3 (magazine tube loaded; NO ROUND IN CHAMBER).
In my LEO days I saw first-hand the results of leaving a round in the chamber. One of my fellow LEOs used to leave a round in the chamber of his duty shotgun while on patrol. Back in those days, the shotgun was in a holder that was mounted to the center transmission "hump" between the driver and passenger seat. Fellow LEO was patrolling a rough camp road at a fairly brisk speed when he was deafened by a loud blast. The bumps/vibrations caused by driving on the rough road caused his shotgun to fire.
Ithaca pump action shotgun: 1 Chevrolet Caprice roof: 0.
Luckily no one was hurt. The LEO had ringing in his ears for a few days, which cleared up.
However you decide to carry your firearm, make sure you are legal for your location.

That would be illegal in the state of NY.

I do. I just don't do stupid things that are going to draw attention to me.
35 years as an LEO, tactical operations officer/commander, firearms trainer and range master, I carry when I expect it is needed and don't when I don't believe it is necessary. Use common sense. Carrying a firearm in the middle of some kids theme park is not only ignorant it is criminal. Pick your places and circumstances and you have no issues. To those that think they need a gun at every minute of the day, you are, well, anyway I worry about those people.

In Ohio some how your license plate is connected to your CCW. Our son was on his way home from work very one early morning (restaurant manager) and was pulled over because his taillight was out. The LEO asked him if he had his gun on him & he said no. In Ohio we are required to notify the LEO if we have our guns on us & we get pulled over.
As far as traveling while carrying, DW has a CCW purse & forgets she has it there. Depending on the state (like Illinois) mine will be locked up in the safe.

A little thing to check out. There is a CCL that you can get for about 38 states.
https://www.gunstocarry.com/ccw-reciprocity-map/
There are concealed carry permits that are legal in 38 states. Oregon does not honor some of these. OR concealed carry permit is a OR only permit. Just some info out there. Oregon is a open carry state.

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

An old saying that worked in 1880 but might get you life or a lethal injection in today’s anti-gun society. Be assured the prosecution is going to do their best to stack the jury in their favor. Better to evaluate where and when you should be carrying.

Also with that. Be assured win or lose you will be sued by the survivors of the other party and end up paying for the shooting with you money and property.
