Hitch Pins

Does anyone here replace your hitch pin on your TT hitch after a certain period of time? Is there any thought that a pin may become fatigued in time or do you think the same one is good forever. I just have thoughts that the pin is the only link between your TV and TT and if it ever gives, things go down hill quick. Maybe I'm worrying about things I shouldn't be???

I have no plans to change my hitch pin. They’re cheap so if it makes you more comfortable doing so your not hurting anything...

Also, as everything seems to be made in China and more poorly made at any given chance to increase profits, maybe a new one is less stout than your old one. Just something else for you to worry about. Sorry.

My utility trailer (3.5 ton) hitch pin is 37 years old. It only shows cosmetic wear.

We have at least 27 years left (7 towing a boat & 3 towing TT) on our current hitch pin.

I'm not a metalurgical engineer, but I AM an engineer, and I wouldn't replace mine unless it showed signs of damage. Under normal conditions it's under very little stress. Certainly less than the rest of the hitch receiver and I haven't heard of fatigue related failures of that component.

I’d relax- good advice for the weekend warriors on this forum in general. That pin is heat treated hardened steel. It’s not going to wear out.

Carry on.
