Hot water heater

I’m in a campground with power. I tried both electronic and gas buttons and the light stays on both from what I can understand they are suppose to go off when the pilot light is ignited. When I open the outside door the pilot light is not on. Suggestions?

What year? Newer rigs have electronic ignition so no pilot light. The light in the switch is just to let you know that it's on in either gas or elec mode.

If your switch panel resembles the attached one, the center light will illuminate when you turn the gas switch on. It then goes off when the flame is detected. The lights in the individual switches should remain on when they are turned on.

The picture shows the black version of the switch panel. I installed the white version which had switches that lit up. At least I think the panel came that way. I may have swapped out the switches for lit ones. Can't remember.

In any event, in gas mode you WANT the center light to go off. If it doesn't then you probably have a problem with the flame lighting.
