Insulating RV Fridge top
We have an in slide double door refrigerator (absorption). Struggles to stay cool in hot weather. There is a space above it to put in about a 1 inch foam insulating board. Has anyone done this and is it ok to do that? Unit is still under warranty, will it affect the warranty?

fridge in slide venting
Hi. Same issue with our new 5th with adsorption fridge in slide. Dealer says installed and operating normally. Sidewall venting is poor at best. Plus inside cabinet next to fridge would get to 110 degrees on a hot day. Screw the warranty, I do not want spoiled food. Used to set on 9, now usually set at 7. Cools better on gas regardless. I insulated the fridge compartment next to cabinet with fiberglass and taped to wall with aluminum tape. Added large 12v fan to upper exterior fridge vent to exhaust heat, connected to existing fan wires. Huge improvement.
Fan is 200mm and quiet. https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Airflow-Performance-Install-CL-F016-PL20BU/dp/B00J0NZGGQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=thermaltake+fan+l ed&qid=1622293041&sr=8-6

As discussed above... Did same
Put foam board above fridge
Fiberglass along the sides and sealed with aluminum tape.
Added two 12 volt fans pushing air up at bottom back of fridge.
Added another 12 volt fan inside fridge wired to the terminal on left side door. Fan runs when door is closed only to circulate... 12 cuft
Running at 4

Also, if you have the 4 door norcold 2118 check the center flap on the left door. Open and close the left door, then open the right door and see if the flap has fully shut. Our left door needed to be shimmed up to make the flap work properly.

did essentially the same to a 2118 - insulation above and side fridge, I used a few layers of foiled foam. Also added fans in top vent to draw air from compartment, added fans inside fridge - unit functions properly now, holds 36-38 in the fridge, 0-10 in freezer.
Prior to those changes freezer was 28-35, fridge 48-55 average.
All in about $50 in parts, etc. and a few hours of messing with it. Really irritating as it is a stupid problem.

I,ve been thinking of adding fans behind our fridge to help things.

I ended up doing a JC Refrigeration HVAC conversion on my 1210 which works great. I wanted to do everything I could to make it as efficient as possible, make it quieter and seal from the elements, so I filled all voids with Rockwool insulation, then cut and fit 1” rigid foil faced foam and foil taped all seams. I also place .030 aluminum over the plywood cabinet base and sealed around it. There was so much open space around the fridge on our Seneca it was rediculous.

I would recommend adding a couple PC fans to the top of the upper vent section. Add a thermal switch and a manual on/off switch.
I have a roof top exhaust. For me, I just added a fan inside the frig that connects to the coils, and it really helped. It cools off faster, even temperature, which is great as our produce drawer is no longer frozen.
