I-8 Alternate Route to San Diego

Has anyone recently driven California State Route 94 from I-8 to San Diego as an alternate to I-8 through the Cleveland National Forrest? Is the road suitable for towing a travel trailer?

I road a Honda Gold Wing over this route in '89 and if memory serves it was a scenic route with little traffic.

Considering it's proximity to the border I imagine every other vehicle today will be white&green.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.
