When I have to go on 695/95 around Baltimore and Washington Beltway, I drive on Truckers hours... Leave home (Harrisburg) at 0100 go down 15 and pick up 270 to 95 or sometimes 83 to 695 to 95. and get down to Petersburg, then pull into Wallymart and sleep for a while. Rarely had any problems.

I’ve only passed DC during the wee hours of the morning. I’m usually past it by 5AM, and I’ve never had a problem so far doing it that way. Have I been lucky?

I do this trip twice a year, South Florida to the Poconos lake region. I stay away from DC and lengthen my trip one extra day and take i80. Unless you don’t mind lots of traffic!
