Jayco quality issues —Thor?

I’ve noticed a lot of threads recently about Jaycos lack of quality. As I looked at each posters signature, it seems to me that the common thread is that they’re all rigs made post Thor acquisition. (And the dealers seem to bear a lot of responsibility for poor PDIs). Anyone else notice this?

When I bought my trailer almost 2 years ago, Jayco had a good reputation for quality and the 2 year Warranty was a good selling point. My rig has had some issues, but my dealer and Jayco have made them right. I have been very happy with it. But, I can’t help but wonder if the culture at Jayco has been changed for the worse.

I love my trailer and have no intention of getting something else anytime soon but if I did, I would really have to scrutinize any potential Jayco purchase. Sorry for those owners who are having so many issues. The RV lifestyle is supposed to be fun and a way to make memories with loved ones. Being upset and aggravated because you can’t use and enjoy your rig due to quality problems is not the way to build memories.

My 2017 was built October of 2016. It has been a Zero issue unit so far in the now 50 nights that we have used it since we purchased it in May. Probably just jinxed myself for saying that, but I literally mean zero issues.

That’s awesome! Obviously the majority of owners are happy with their rigs. It just seemed like a little more quality bashing going on than usual. Maybe I’m just imagining an increase [emoji3]

The acquisition took place in July 2016 (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...lqCTR622oVZB_C). We have a 2017 Melbourne 24L build on a 2016 Mercedes 3500 chassis. Other than some relatively minor cosmetic issues, we have had no significant problems so far. Any concerns we have had have been quickly addressed by our dealer, Johnnie Walker RV in Las Vegas, NV.

My trailer was built march 2017, bought it in June . We had very little issues that I couldn't fix with a screw driver or set of wrenches. Extremely happy with the fit and finish of our rig and look forward to many years of trouble free camping!

We may be seeing more comments on quality because more units are being sold...and more are being sold to people who never have RVed before. Management did not change at Jayco from what I have seen. The industry is selling more units than ever before. Also labor is more and more difficult to obtain...younger people don't want to do "manual" labor. Everywhere you go there are help wanted signs that go unanswered, especailly in the trades. Hopefully we can get past the everyone has to go to college and educate younger folks on what opportunities are available in all fields.

A RV dealer in suburban Denver I visited a few months ago was offering all summer $18 an hour for high school kids that wanted to assist their techs...he had zero takers.

Does not bode well for the future. Untill RV's are more standardized where robots can be used we are going to have issues with delivery and quality.

Simple answer, no, Thor buyout has not changed the quality of Jayco. Our 2017 post Thor buyout White Hawk is just as we'll built as the 2016 pre-Thor White Hawk that was sitting next to our 2017 in the lot...

My daughter works in retail social media and clearly states that most people who post are those that have a complaint. We purchased our 2017 Whitehawk a year ago and have experienced virtually no problems. I also built homes and some new owners are just unrealistic in their expectations in regard to RV's. But, there are some real problems with some units; just read the posts carefully. Luckily, our dealer provides great support when we need them. Find yourself a good service writer and treat them like the valuable person they are; they can be the difference between a few hours or a few weeks.

we have a new 2018 28.5 ht. That had its problems on the first run out. There was an issue with the fresh water plumbing and the door latch was almost impossible to operate. The dealer is working on corrections. Seems like a lack of final inspection at the factory. Any have a plumbing and wiring diagrams?

I think a lot of dealers charge for dealer prep but just clean them and send them out the door just to get paid and worry about repairs later.

The only real difference I noticed between our 2009 built, 2009 Greyhawk and our 2017 built, 2017 Jayflight Bungalow was the lack of clean-up from the factory. We lived in the Bungalow all summer long and vacuumed weekly. When we packed up for the season we were still finding metal remnants from drilling into the framing. They were everywhere in the camper. In every carpet and every window frame. Lift up the top bunks in the bunkhouse and there's more on the supporting rails.

We bought from the same dealer with the same owner and almost the same exact sales staff. I don't know about the service department since we never had to use them, but seeing how much we have vacuumed and still find the metal squiggles, I don't think the dealer could have cleaned them all even if they tried. I don't think they did though since they were everywhere.

The only real issue we've had is with the stove, but that was fixed by the stove manufacturer, didn't bother going through dealer since it is a residential style unit, just smaller.

We brought our new 28.5 HT home this past Saturday after a 3 hour PDI. While placing our stuff in it over the weekend, we noticed that a piece of trim had fallen down in the rear cabinets, the retainer holding the screen door to the main door had pulled loose and a back and bottom from one of the dining chairs popped out when we sat in it. Apparently the brad nailer ran out of brads on the trim piece because we could see where the gun was but no brads. All in all, this is minor. We had a 2017 27DSRL that had a few minor issues over the year, but nothing that wasn't taken care of. Being in the aircraft manufacturing industry and charging anywhere from $10-60 million bucks for an aircraft, we still have major vendor component issues. But they try to take care of them and the customer just as Jayco does.

Jayco usually will not send you these diagrams while you are in the warranty period.
