Roof Ballooning

I made a 1200 mile round trip down to Florida and back this week. I got to watching campers roofs Ballooning up. I probably seen 20 or more. Some of them were some really nice 5th wheels.

I also have seen quite a few going the other way with their roof covering about 2 feet above the roof, sucked up by the passing wind stream. Makes you wonder how many time a year they inspect the roof. Sooner or later it's going to come loose and then they'll get the message. I once saw a 5th wheel pull into Flying Jay with their roof draped over the rear end of the trailer. Hope it gave them a hint something needed fixing. Most all of them I have seen have been 5th wheels, very few TT's.

I see a lot of this too. I see on both TT’s and FW’s. I think it’s pretty common on FW’s due to a number of factors. I check mine every few months and each time I run through a campground with lots of low tree limbs.

Don't tow a trailer or 5th wheel with its windows open. I believe that can cause the roof membrane to bubble up from the sheathing.

I have to admit... it is difficult to detect if the rubber roof membrane is properly glued to the surface when it is sitting still...

I’ve seen a few and most of them were new RVs being delivered by transporters driving 75 plus mph down the highways. I would guess that once sucked loose they never reattach themselves. How many people go on the roof of new RV when purchasing? I did but I think most do not. Safe travels

Enjoy the journey
