Route Planning

Forgive the newbie question, but, what do you all use for route planning? Here in NY we have a lot of "parkways" (low overpasses and/or no trucks or trailers allowed) and I don't want to wander on to a road with low overpasses or where towing isn't approved.

My Titan has its own GPS but does not have a "truck route only" function. Is there typically an update or mod available for stock gps? Do you use any specific smart phone apps instead? Any other tips?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

We have a Garmin RV360 GPS. It is a fabulous addition to our travels.

They have other less expensive models that do the same thing with a smaller screen.

Allstays.com is a app that has a filter for that and a whole bunch other stuff. About $10

I use the truck's GPS as the primary pathfinder and Google maps as backup. Between these two I can get my route, I augment that with fuel stops, Wallymarts and rest stops using Allstays.
Allstays is also my go-to app for camp ground info.

Thanks for those who suggesting Allstays. I've actually had it a few days and have been tinkering with the filters on there.

Any suggestions as to how to avoid "no-truck/Rv/bus/trailer" type roads? Is that available in Allstays or another app?

Thanks I will look into this. I had hoped to avoid having to mount a portable gps right above the one in my truck but if that's what it takes so be it.

Thanks!

X2. I use the Garmin Base Camp software for trip planning as it allows you to set parameters (height, weight, etc.) for your rig and then routes you accordingly. In two years and ~11k miles we haven't had any issues

X3 - I have the RV660LMT unit and use the Base Camp software for trip planning. It's not the most intuitive software but after using it for a bit it definitely gets the job done.....

I don't think Allstays can do that. I will warn you of low clearances but I don't think there's anything on road conditions.

This link was posted in another forum. Not sure how helpful it will be but maybe states wouldn't build an underpass shorter than their limit?? Around here in CA there are truck bypasses that are available I assume to separate slower traffic or avoid underpasses.
