Sway Bar Broke - 440+ Miles Safe?

Just stopped for an overnight in the middle of a 1,000 journey. I was going to knock out 440 miles to make it home tomorrow when I noticed my sway bar ball broken off the a frame.

I have WDH and use those, but should I be concerned to travel without sway bar tomorrow on the interstate if I keep it 60-65 and don’t make any hard stops?

What do you have for a wdh? Some have an integrated sway control.

As for safe, it is hard to say. How does the rig rid? How windy is it? Do semi's push you around?

I suspect it is a friction bar. You might be able to Google and find a store that has the ball. Also are you aware, friction bara must be disconnected whenever you backup, as they tend to break.

Good luck, take it slow. Might be worth taking the secondroads.

We have a Jayco 264BHW. About 2 years ago our antisway bar broke during the middle of a drive to our camping destination. The DW panicked and said we should head home (about an hour away) to have fixed. I said no we're not going back home. We took the drive easy keeping the speed at around 60 mph and we had no trouble at all. Even when big semi trucks passed us going the other way on a 2-lane highway, there was no unusual sway.

I would keep it below 65 and maybe shift some of the weight of the items packed in the camper further forward. It's amazing what an extra 50-100lbs of tongue weight can do when dealing with sway. We have stopped and bought cases of water bottles and stored them under the bed in front to help combat strong winds blasting us from the side.

Does the TV have built in sway control?

Again, what WDH brand are you using?

All depends

Welcome!

I used to have one of those weight distribution type hitches that had the additional sway bar with the friction adjustment on it. If you're in a half ton you'll need to slow down some no doubt. If she starts to sway slow down a little more. Find the speed you can go without sway and keep in mind wind, trucks passing etc. Do this and you should be good.

Looking ahead those type of weight distribution hitches don't work well at all compared to what's on the market now. Lots of folks really like the Equalizer. I'm a fan of the Weigh Safe. Food for thought.
