Test drive RV insurance issue?

When you test drive an RV, who (you or dealer) is responsible in case of an accident? Can you buy RV insurance immediately at dealer office or a phone call after you sign sale documents and before driving the RV home?

While test driving it would be the dealers insurance. Post sale at least in NY, you would need insurance of your own to even obtain plates.

I would verify with your insurance agent. When you rent a vehicle, they offer insurance for a cost or you can use your own so I would want to get it from the agents mouth or in your policy coverage statements.

+1, first place to start is with your insurance agent.

When I purchased my new car about 1.5 years ago. It was covered under an existing car policy for 30 days.

If a test drive required that you buy insurance, nobody would ever do a test drive.

What if there is no car or insurance? Some people living in downtown area do not have a car. In this case, it may take time to buy a new insurance.

If the RV has dealer tags on it, for the test drive, it's covered on their insurance. At least in NY. Their plates, their coverage.

The minute we signed purchase papers at the dealer in Virginia my wife called our insurance agent in NC. Within an hour she called back with a binder for the Pinnacle. Pretty standard stuff. We still haven't picked it up 3-4 weeks after the fact. Heck, we got financing and payment papers in the mail yesterday. Yes, to get this deal done we had to agree to finance it for a year. Salesman said he did the same with his fiver when he purchased it.

I don't know about usa insurance rules, but here in quebec if the dealer offer you or allow you to test drive I'm pretty sure that the insurance is on the dealer responsibility because the're still the owner and it's only for a short period. if you rent a trailer you need to buy an insurance cover because it's for longer than a test drive, and the dealer can't know how and where you use there trailer.

A lot of why, how come, and what ifs. Begining to think you may need help we can't provide. If you fianance a new rv, it is not leaving the lot until the finance company sees proof of insurance. Do you live in a big city with no car? Where you gonna park it? Buy the floor plan you like, who cares what it is named. Not enough seat belts, keep looking. And buy the cheap windshield cover. Keep em coming, we can do this all day long.
