Thought I had seen it all

But last night I took advantage of a station that had diesel for $5.19 (crazy that I think that’s a bargain now) and as I was pulling up to the pump a mini van pulling a tandem axle trailer was pulling out. Thought that was a little much for a Kia Sedona to pull with no load distributing hitch. Then, as the guy pulled out into the roadway I heard a loud grinding sound, the rear wheel on the drivers side was missing! This clown was pulling with only three wheels on the trailer. An a older trailer that was about 25 foot or so, no lights on the trailer so it probably wasn’t even connected to the van so no trailer brakes. Down the road he went. Crazy stuff that you can’t make up.

Idiots. They are everywhere. I have no problems with them walking the streets and shopping centers, but it gets scary knowing we all share the same roadway.

Stay safe out there.

So a 4200+lb (empty) trailer on 3 wheels being towed by 3500 lb weight limit TV... with no signals, brakes or any idea what the #*%? he's doing.

Some would probably consider this overboard, but I always to a full on pre trip inspection before I pull out anywhere. That's probably the old CDL driver training pounded in my brain from years ago.

Anyway, I hardly ever see anyone else in a campground do the same. Of course in the example above, the individual had to know that there was a missing wheel. But in general, it's no wonder that there are so many people running around without functioning lights, etc. They simply don't look.

I still hold my CDL although I don't drive commercially any more. I also do a full pre trip before every trip as well. Old habits die hard...

I’m sure he did an inspection…
— Gas cap on? Check!
— Hitch connected? Check!
— At least 3 wheels? Check!
Good to go!

That statement brings back memories. We had a 1990 Dodge Ram conversion van (318 engine) and a 1994 Ford Bronco. We were told by the salesman that either vehicle would tow a 27' tag with absolutely no issues.

He was absolutely correct...NOT. Going uphill with the van the max speed was 40. And the wheelbase on the Bronco was too short and the trailer wiggled way too much. After a trip to Texas with the van/trailer, we sold the van and got a 1999 F350 dually.

Now tongue in cheek - we had a 19' tag that we towed with a 1974 Plymouth 'Cuda, 4 on the floor. Yep, burned up the clutch. But the memories we have. And how much we have learned.

Agreed. Isn't it funny how you get in the habit of something and just stick with it. With that said, I have moved beyond thumping the tires with a stick like they instructed us to do years ago. I carry a pressure gauge now......well.....plus my mallet.......just in case......

Some years back, maybe 5 or 6, I was on my way to work when I came upon a massive traffic backup. Only the right lane of 3 was open. It was a Kia Soul laying on it's side connected to an old 14/15ft single axle trailer also on it's side, and in a jackknife position. And of course no WDH. I could not get a photo as I was alone. As said you can't make this stuff up.

I mentioned this before. Probably 9-10 years back. We were on our way home from north of Duluth MN. Coming out of Duluth there is along steep hill on I35. We get just past the top of the hill, and I see a huge boat on a monster bumper pulled trailer (3 maybe 4 axle), on the shoulder. I'm sure my SRW 3500 could pull it, but I suspect it would be safer to pull with a dually, and maybe something yet larger.

Don't recall the make and model TV any more. As we drove past, the hood was up, and it was a fairly new small SUV, like RAV 4 size. Told the DW, wish I had the camera out, then commented they probably burned up the transmission, and damaged the engine.

Like others, you cannot make this stuff up.

We have been up that hill many times. I live in the U.P., just a little ways east. Actually not too steep, been on lots worse.
Trying to figure out how they mounted a 2 5/16 " ball on a Rav 4 or similar
Not a good situation. Surprised MSP wasn't there.

This picture is 10 years old and it was posted in this forum about then. It seemed like it fit this thread.

Their site tag indicated they were leaving the same day as us. I told DW we would be on the road before they were.

That looks a little tail heavy to me.

Did you call the authorities (police)? You could save a life of someone that got hit by this nut.

That actually looks a lot safer than a lot of stupid stuff I've seen over the years.
