Water pump / Shurflo 4008 making terrible noise

Hello,

My water pump started making terrible, like-machine gun noise. I ordered Shurflo 4008 thinking that I have some low quality water pump, which (from what I read) some people are changing to e.g. Shurflo 4008.

https://youtu.be/sTieT0N_-G8

After ordering the pump I check the one I have already in the trailer, which is exactly Shurflo 4008. Hopefully, you can confirm that this is not the way the pump should work.

Does it make sense to change it to the same model or you can recommend another model?

Amazon suggests also following products - which are worth to install?

SHURflo 182-200 Pre-Pressurized Accumulator Tank,Black $46.73
SHURFLO (255-313) 1/2" Twist-On Pipe Strainer $10.60
SHURFLO 94-591-01 Pump Silencing Kit $25.15

Thanks!

That pump is what we have, and I think it's a good one. Have you determined it's definitely the pump itself, or maybe some plumbing pipes making contact with something, and making the noise. I had to adjust a pipe on ours, as it was making a weird sound. A pipe was touching the side wallboard. At first, I thought ours was going bad too.

I don't think you need an accumulator, silencer kit, or strainer. The strainer will already be on yours, and is transferable to the new one. The mounting feet are rubber, so that will isolate the pump to floor noise. If your old pump was originally quiet enough, the silencer kit won't help a whole lot. All that does, is put flexible hose connections from the pump to the pipes.

bono, just to be sure we’re on the same page here, your pump started making a noise that it never did before, right? When you describe it as “machine gun noise” I’ve heard pumps that sound like that under normal operation. They are noisy and very annoying, especially if they’re running for long periods of time as in somebody taking a shower. You are obviously not a newbie so just looking for clarification;.

Thanks for the responses, Guys! Yes, the pump was always noisy. However, the other day I was away biking and my wife took a shower using all of the water from the FW tank. I am not sure whether the fact that she could have run the pump after there was no water changed the noise (it appears so), but definitely the pump is starting later after after I turn on the water now and stops later after I turn off the water - as it would build additional pressure in the system.

Have you seen the video on youtube I posted?

Thank!

That video sound a bit noisier than ours does. I know they're suppose to run dry with no ill effects. In fact, once we stopped at a rest area for a potty break and I turned it on to flush, but not enough water in the tank to pick it up. I also forgot to turn it off, and drove another hour before we got to the campground. It's still working as it should.

For the $65 for a new one, I would change it out.

Did you try moving the heat duct off the top of it to see if that's some of the noise?

Thanks! Yes, I tried moving the heat duct - no change in the noise.

Interesting observation about the price of the pump. I ordered SHURFLO 4008-171-E65 115V 3GPM Revolution Pump for $108 from Amazon. I noticed that Amazon sells also SHURflo 12v 3.0 GPM Revolution RV Water Pump # 4008-101-A65 for $55.

Not sure what the difference is, but I hope the model I ordered is the real "revolution water pump"

You need the 12 volt version for your trailer. If you can cancel the order for the 115 volt pump. do that, or just order the 12 volt one, and return the other one. The 4008-101-A65 is the right number.

That sounds like it has extra parts inside wanting to come out. I mean the pumps are noisy imo anyway, but that would be awful to listen to.

Sound like to me you had a pole magnet break or come loose inside the motor.
