Same here. I also stash a little container of wet wipes behind my seat in case I forget the gloves or am in a hurry. They come in handy even when not pumping fuel.

Bleach, gloves, flashlight . . . I always hope if a law enforcement person is searching my truck that they own an RV.

“Sir, why do you have a hatchet back here?”
“Honestly officer, it’s for chopping firewood…”

No, it shouldn't, but that's the number one way I realize I did something stupid!

Visited the John Wayne museum in Iowa 2 years ago. Bought a t shirt with that quote. Camped about 10 miles from the museum. Good trip.

So what water to bleach ratio do you recommend for the spray bottle?

Here is a link to the recommendation chart from Clorox. I mix mine probably a little stronger than their recommendations since I don't necessarily measure when I'm mixing. But, this should be a good starting point.

What not to do

I work as a camp host in a local park for several weeks each summer and have witnessed a few dandies. Several years ago a gentleman was emptying his black tank into his portable blue dump tank when I made my morning rounds. I assumed that he was just preparing for several more days of camping. a couple of hours later I saw him pulling out with TT hooked up and the portable blue tank being towed between his truck and camper. Yes, between.........
Half way to the dump station it came unhooked and wedged under the trailer, cracking the blue tank and spilling (you know what) over the roadway. I yelled for him to stop, went and got my portable blue tank, and helped him empty his into mine and clean up the mess. After getting him emptied and cleaned up, I offered to help him dispose of the broken tank into the dumpster. He replied "No thank you, I'm going to take it home and fix it". Wuhhhhhhh?

It takes all kinds.

At some of the rest areas in California they have free dump stations, so we figured after three days of boondocking we would stop at one on I5 on the way home and do a thorough dump and clean until we witnessed what the truck with a cab over camper in front of us did. He pulled up to the dump station and was about 4 feet from the drain hole and just opened his tank valve and there was no mistaking that it was the black tank he was emptying! Needless to say, very little of what left the exit tube made it to the drain hole! He grabs the flush hose, turns on the water and proceeds to wiggle it on the ground like a snake to attempt to get his mess to move towards the drain. The DW almost puked in our truck! We pulled out of line and headed down the road!

As long as the sores have quit draining it should be OK...

I have no issues in approaching someone that is ignorant with dumping or flushing human waste on the surface at campsites. I bring my cell phone and snap a few shots of their results, and make sure I get their face in the pics. I then ask them if they do this at home. Usually I get no answers, just stupid looks.
I hope I at least embarrassed them enough to think twice before doing it again.
