I think it depends on where you go and what your budget is. Verizon pretty much has the best coverage area, followed by AT&T. The best bang for your buck is probably T-Mobile. Shop around and do your research for yourself and see what you can get for a Mi-Fi.

Keep in mind that any hotspot needs to be able to get a cell network signal.
Many of the best CG's just don't have any... some will say that's a good thing.
Basically, if you can't get any "bars" on your phone, you're out of luck.

We use an AT&T Mobley device with unlimited internet for $20/month. Not sure if the deal still exists. We put it on top of a cell booster with a trucker antenna attached to the ladder on the back of the fifth wheel and get good signal most places we go.

Please look at your phone plan restrictions before you buy. Also consider how much you use the computer and what you use it for.
We use Verizon and have the unlimited plan. Our monthly usage is around 80GB. Yes, that is correct. We stream a lot of TV and movies as well as watching a lot of youtube stuff.
Many "unlimited" plans will cut back your speed when you go past a certain point. For us it is 15GB for the hotspots. The phones are unlimited at full speed. Some plans cut back on phone speed as well and have a 10GB cutoff. Also check and see what speed you will get after it is cut back. Verizon is ok for surfing when choked, others are not.
If you are paying for data then plan on using the computer only for email (without attachments) and some light surfing for an hour or so a day (no videos at all). When doing that I could get by with 10GB per month.
Our hotspot is a MiFi 6620L Jetpack from Verizon. I picked it because it can be used with an external antenna.

We spent last summer in a location where typically there are about 700 people. The phone system is designed for that amount of traffic. In summer, on busy weekends it will swell to about 20,000 people. The phone system and the hot spot on the phone works great during the week. On weekends you can hardly make a phone call it slows so much. So just because you purchased a hot spot, if your in a more remote area, even with good phone service much of the time, you may experience very slow speeds on wi fi. Not even possible to stream anything, and much of the time, not even able to check Email.
The whole country isn't "wired" like it is in big cities. The infrastructure just isn't there for any volume in more remote areas.

We use Verizon and have been pleased with the coverage. My work phone is AT&T and it’s pretty good, though we have been in a number of places where I didn’t have coverage for work, but fine with Verizon.
Friends dropped Verizon for Sprint to try and save some money, but due to awful Sprint coverage are back to Verizon.

I have a friend with the same AT&T unlimited plan and mobley device. He and his family took a 4 week trip and pushed over 500GB through the device and never hit any slow downs. The restriction on the unlimited AT&T is after 22GB you can be subject to bandwidth throttling "if/when the network is busy". He never experienced any throttling.
My wife and I both take trips where we work from the 5th wheel and we've had great experience so far using the AT&T device coupled with the weboost cell booster.

Yeah. It was an amazing deal. I had to continually refresh their site as the devices were constantly sold out. I convinced a bunch of my friends to get in while the getting was good. $22/mo for unlimited with a USB to OBD2 cable so we can take it anywhere is awesome.

We use Verizon but have been a bit frustrated with their service during high attendance events or weekends. We travel to Lake Tahoe quite a bit and the hot spot service gets iffy if it is a "big weekend." But, all in all Verizon seems to be the strongest. In addition, if you ever leave the Country they have a $10.00 a day plan which is awesome if you need to be connected to your phone.

We use Verizon and subscribe to their unlimited plan. Seems for us that after 22 GB the plan really, and I mean really slows down. Starts back at zero at the beginning of the billing cycle each month. Best thing about it is the coverage is better then anything else out there. If you belong to FMCA they have a deal on the JetPack.

Verizon
FMCA has a deal with Verizon with .01 cent for the jetpack ( or whatever the term is now ) and $49.99 a month for 25 gigs before it slows down - I have talked to 4 people that say the new Jetpack is much better than their older one

Same here but with AT&T. Also installed an external antenna and signal booster that helps tremendously with up/download speeds, especially in marginal signal strength areas. The bar (dots with AT&T) signals routinely get amp'd up by a dot or two.
