We are talking about packing up and going someplace since we do not have family coming to town.

Not sure the location yet, but have talked about the Texas Gulf Coast.

Wife and I have talked about it, but are currently waiting to see what our 2 daughters are doing. Our family has split somewhat between mask and no mask. After a birthday party for our 1 year old Granddaughter where one daughter's in laws wouldn't shake hands etc. I said no more family events where masks were required. I think wife and I are leaning towards camping on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I tried this last year for the first time at the same location and was a total disaster. It rained hard for all 4 days we were there. Plan was to fry a turkey but we couldn't do that due to the rain.

I'd love to but can't make reservations this far out because it could be 75* or we could have a foot of snow on the ground. Gotta wait for the weather forecast.

We have been camping at Thanksgiving for going on 10 years now. In most cases the parks are full, if not packed, so we make reservations as far in advance as possible. Since Texas has gone to site specific reservations the spots fill up quickly. COVID has made reservations even more tricky. We always pick a park close enough that the kids can come out for the day if they want. We'll be at Lake Whitney State Park this year.

I've been trying to get DW's parents on board with this for YEARS. Back when I was a kid, we lived VERY far from our extended family, so it was just the 4 of us. We would take off to the lake for the weekend. We did that for almost all holidays, and I absolutely LOVED it. And we still had all the traditional foods too. Mom was quite a good cook, and she and my dad could make it work with even the skimpiest of tools & supplies.

I finally got DW to "buck the system" after 2 decades of extreme effort, so this year, we're headed out to DW's old "stomping ground" and dragging the boat along for some lake fun. Sure, it'll be cold, but maybe we can get some good fishing in. Worst case, we'll get some cruising in, which is good enough for me these days. We made the reservations in such a way that we would camp before the holiday, come back home for the day before and the holiday itself (to celebrate with our employees), then head back out after. Then DW's parents said they would be willing to not have Thanksgiving ON Thanksgiving. I about had to scrape my jaw up off the floor; her parents NEVER allow that. To them, Thanksgiving is to be had ON the day AT HOME, or not at all (insert extreme eyeroll here). Anyway, if I'd known that, we could've lengthened our reservation at the lake. My dad's not having T-giving because of COVID; I have quite a large step-family, so they didn't want to risk spreading with all those people. If we were going to go there, it would not be ON the day itself, and we would be staying in our RV in his driveway anyway, so "sort of camping".

The way I see it, holidays are the PERFECT time to go camping. Especially if you have a small family. With our RV, we have nearly all the comforts of home, and cooking a traditional Thanksgiving meal would be REALLY easy. Dare I say easier than doing so at home. And for me, the physical location of the meal is irrelevant. So long as I'm with the ones I love, anywhere is "home"...

Unfortunately this will be the first time in the past 5 years that we are staying home. We missed the boat on getting our reservation in on time and weren’t able to get a reservation at any of our other go to parks.

We just thought about it a couple weeks ago and are in the same boat. Everybody is camping and the 1st timers and newbies are overwhelming everything here. It’s been that way all year.

We are spending 2 weeks at Degray Lake Arkansas going to fry a turkey fir thanksgiving. We have a 27BHB. My wife and 2 pups. Love the serenity

Sounds great! I love the idea of a camping Thanksgiving! We’ve hosted Thanksgiving at our home for 19 years straight. Lots of people, lasts until 9:30 or 10 pm. The only way we got off the hook this year is the COVID-19 excuse and no large gatherings. Which is total BS but we took full advantage of the opportunity to skate away from the obligation. Maybe next year we’ll host at the local State Park.......
