I just bought my first camper it's a 1987 2450 and I can't figure out how to keep the outlets and fridge with power without the generator. I have 2 12v batteries hook up parallel with each other and was told that would do it. However only the lights work, any advice as to where to start?

As far as I know, you don't get power to the outlets, only when the genny is running or the camper is plugged in to electric. And the fridge needs to be switched to propane.

You were told wrong. The outlets will only run with shore power or the geny. You could buy an INVERTER to get a/c power if boondocking, but that will wear the batteries down rather rapidly.

So I'm not much help with the fridge as I never looked at how ours was connected to gas. Our current fridge has a switch on the front to switch to propane. The one in our pop-up had something we had to flip on the outside of the trailer. I'm sure someone else will have better instructions for you.

Hopefully they didn't swap the fridge to an electric only one.

Right that's what I'm hoping to. I'm so new to this all the advice I've received has helped. I'm going out to check the fridge now and see what the hook up is. Was hoping to be able to watch TV at night with no gen.

Here's an owner's manual for 1987 models http://www.cunninghamcampers.com/fck...87_TowTTFW.pdf

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to say how to switch the fridge, just that it originally ran on electric or propane. But maybe other bits of the manual will be useful for you.

If someone changed out the original fridge for one that works only on AC,
(a residential fridge) You may not be able to use it boon-docking w/o investing in a generator or an inverter. Either way you will be limited when camping off the grid.
