Back with Jayco

I owned a Jayco back in 1991 and had much fun with it. Now I have a 2017 28' RLS and am hoping to add some solar for some boondocking. I have a question...

My Jayco has a solar port on the side. It is NOT a ZAMP connection so my understanding is that I should be able to use many different types of panel. Is there a connection already installed on the roof should I put panels up there?

One system I am looking at has those clips that attach directly to the battery terminals. Is there an adapter I could install instead of the clips that would permit me to plug right in to the port already installed on the trailer?

Thanks,
Ron

Yep, There is a connector on your roof. I have a 2017 27.5 RLTS and it came with the electrical solar connector on the roof. You will still need a controller etc. On the inside wall of mine is a decal depicting a solar controller. and allegedly, behind this decal is the roof solar panel wiring say's "Go Solar" on the label. I do have another connector on the front of the unit that is a 12 Volt plug. I used it to power up my old Winegard Satellite dish. Conceivable that you could hook up a "Small" solar charger to top off your battery.

CONGRATULATIONS on the JAYCO!!!

...and WELCOME TO JOF!!! The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

Not sure about the connectors on your TT as there were different ones used. Are you planning on mounting your SOLAR panels or using them as portables?

Renogy (Google it) SOLAR panels are a favorite. They have kits to meet your individual needs. They are probably the best $ per watt cost you will find and I have yet to hear anyone having any issues with the ones they purchased.

As for the pre-wire, no matter what type of connector it is (picture of it would be GREAT) there are converters and the PRE-WIRE needs to be continuity checked from the connector down to the other end, before connecting anything to it.
