Such smoke detectors exist - they are designed to work with 12v and 24v commercial alarm systems. A few models come with sounders built in the unit so they should stand alone. Problem is, being commercial products, they ain't cheap.
I know someone is going to say "What's the big deal, you just check the battery once a year." But safety equipment should be as fool proof as possible and hardwiring to the 12v system (with a small LiIo rechargable battery backup for during power failures) would just make sense. As would an end of live indication to replace after 5 years of use.

A bit late to respond to this one, but playing devil's advocate here, we have many threads here where people defeat their CO/Propane detectors because of the 12v battery draw in storage or boondocking. This would be just one more such draw, and people will be even more tempted to bypass. IMO better to stay on top of the battery changes each year; easy for me because I take mine out each year when winterizing and reinstall with a fresh battery in the spring.

Don't forget to check the ones in your stick built house too. I install new hardwired detectors a year ago, when I remodeled, 2 out of 5 would not sound a few days ago! I still have to replace them, bad me.

Please replace any and all smoke detectors at least every 10 years.
Costco has a promotion this month for 2 First Alert battery operated units with 10 year lithium batteries.
Place one in the living area and one in the bedroom area of your RV.
They also have a First Alert multi-purpose 5 lb fire extinguisher on sale this month.

You mean like those lithium batteries that catch fire Wonder if the alarm sounds when it is the cause of the fire.
Seriously, I got a drone for Christmas and the battery warnings for the Li-ion batteries would make you believe that these things are more dangerous than TNT!

On a trip last year, we became concerned, around breakfast time, about an alarm sounding from the neighbouring site... It didn't stop, as it might if somebody just reset it, so we went round to check.
We found a gentleman, sitting in the sun, blissfully ignoring the beeping.
He assured us all was well, and nodded in the direction of the camper.. "She always smokes the place up, cooking..."
A few minutes later, he left in his truck, and came back with a McDonalds bag...

Ahhh, cooking and smoke alarm alerting the neighboring campers that a meal is being prepared. Every morning, I have my toast and coffee. I like my toast a light brown, but it never fails to set off the smoke alarm which happens to be about 5' from where the toaster sits on the kitchen counter. For awhile I would keep the kitchen towel in my hand waiting to spin it around the smoke detector as soon as it started beeping. Work's GREAT, but it is a pain. One morning I had the thermostat set for just the fan to run, low and behold, NO SMOKE ALARM. Now, I walk over to the thermostat while the coffee is being made, turn on the fan and put the bread in the toaster. All last summer after implementing the new process, NO SMOKE ALARAM!! Why it took so long to figure this one out is beyond me.

I take my battery out and leave the alarm open and hanging down for the winter. Why? Because a few years ago we left it in on a popup and the roof was frozen shut for weeks with it going beep beep beep for weeks!
I take the 9 volt inside and use it as a backup on a clock and get a new one each spring.

I once worked for a company that had its warehouse and offices inside a self-store facility. I was always hearing those low battery “chirps” emanating from RVs that were parked in the outdoor storage yard.

Although the camper may only be a few months old, it could've been installed a lot longer before that. Also, if you don't camp a lot and you don't have an external power source connected to it for an extended amount of time, that CO monitor battery will go dead.
Regards,
Larry
