Smile First time Travel Trailer owner

My husband and I have been tent campers and now just bought our first Jay Flight SLX 245 RLSW. We pick it up in just a couple weeks. We are so excited. It's all we think about. Our first trip is going to be up to Old Grade Campground in Michigan. I know that it's primitive but should I fill my water tank up before I go or when I get up there? What's the best way to fill it if I do it when I get there?

Be sure to rinse it first as it might have sawdust and plastic chips in it.

Best to fill, and run clean fresh water through all the lines before your trip. Your unit may have antifreeze in the lines, or debris from construction. Rinse it out well.

I've often towed with full water tank, and to be honest, I find the trailer usually tows fine, but then again, I travel to places with no water or bad water pretty often too.

Advice I was given.......Water weighs a lot, and can affect handling and gas mileage. Check your weight limits, and if you have a good place to fill up once you are closer to site, wait and fill up then.
One gallon of water weighs almost 8.5 lbs. so, you can do the math.

If you opt to fill up once you get where you're going, you may want to invest in one of these. I've run into several situations where there is a hydrant but no means to attach a hose.

Don't forget water pressure control valve hooks on the end of your hose before you fill.We always pour a little bleach into the water hose before we fill fresh water tanks. Enjoy!

We are so excited to use our travel trailer for the first time. Glad to hear you love yours. My husband loves to cook and that is one thing that drew us to this trailer. Lots of counter space. I am trying to think of things we will need to save space on storage now.

Congrats on your first rig and welcome!

Make sure to have some paper and a pen/pencil on the counter to write needed things down as you think of them!!!

Chances are the included starter kit is not the best. If you need help selecting some better quality items, we will be glad to offer suggestions and help spend some money!!!

Hauling water, as mentioned adds a fair amount of weight. I would suggest filling at the cg If your fresh tank is behind the axle(s). Reason being is to much weight behind the axle(s) can lighten the tw (tongue weight) to much, which can cause sway as a result.
